🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪 Five knives out of five.

August, an autistic, super smart psychopath, and Lucas, clairvoyant and former FBI agent, now teacher, might not sound like a given match but yes, they certainly are!

August falls instantaneously for Lucas when they bump into each other but that encounter creates a rather serious problem: as a clairvoyant Lucas get glimpses of August night job - killing bad people. I was excited to see this play out, especially how Lucas, a man of the law, would handle August's bloody side gig. And while breaking into someone's apartment to watch them sleep because you don't have their phone number normally would be just too much, when August does just that it fits perfectly and is rather sweet. 😁

It's obvious August's mind works differently but Lucas kinda goes with the flow and treats him with acceptance and gentle care. Having a possessive and protective psychopath in your corner when someone is trying to kill you is bound to make you feel safe.

We again also get to see other Mulvaney family members. Atticus story is the next in line and I am already on it!

Really liked August and his dry personality!
Lucas was a great character and I liked him being able to see visions from objects!

I ended up liking this one more than the first one. I found August’s and Lucas’ relationship a lot cuter than Adam’s and Noah’s from the first book. I didn’t find it as creepy or red flag filled. The central mystery I also enjoyed and I felt that the stakes were a lot higher especially at the end when they had a time limit to saving a character. Overall I felt there was a lot more development done writing wise with August and Lucas feeling like more fleshed out characters with actual development and traits that made them feel more alive. Still too much sex for my liking, but besides that I found this cute and fast paced.

4.5 stars; August and Lucas....you sweet crazy romantic men.

More obsessive psychopath killer romance, yes please!

“Have you ever just looked at someone or something and thought, I want to keep it? Like, I want to protect him from the outside world but, at the same time, his helplessness and fear are so…intoxicating? I want him to be soft just for me.”

August, sweet baby August, learning about love languages so he can make his former FBI, current psychic, boyfriend happy! "August would happily rip this Kohn guy’s tongue out if it made Lucas happy. Was murder an act of service?"

Usually I'm not a huge fan of super insta-love, but it works in these books. Probably because our psychopaths become so obsessed and their feelings get hurt so easily, it's adorable. There's also probably something to the whole Lucas knowing immediately that August was a killer, but then August showing him he's a monster that other monsters fear. When your biggest secret is out there during your first meeting, it makes it easier to not have any other secrets between one another. I also appreciated how immediately August believes Lucas's ability and how that whole bit was handled.

These books are so fun, and can easily be read in one sitting in the evening after work. I'm not sure what I'll do with myself once I'm through with them all.
