I’m a little obsessed with this series and August and Lucas’ story was so good!
I really like Onley James' writing, the characters have great banter between them and there’s a lot of witty and funny comments - I laughed out loud quite a few times during this book. Don’t be fooled though, “Psycho” has its fair share of darkness and suspense, if you have triggers you should definitely read the trigger warnings because it gets really dark and horrendous at times.
Lucas and August's relationship is a bad idea from the start, the former FBI agent and the current serial killer, but August is persistent and insistent on keeping Lucas close and safe. Their relationship is fast paced, very steamy and intense. There’s a bit of kink and one seriously hot scene with some knife play. I loved their dynamics throughout the books and how the power exchanged changed depending on the context and situation instead of being static.
The way Lucas’ ability was portrayed was really interesting and added an extra element to the story which I appreciated. The way it was used continuously and in different ways throughout the book was intriguing, and it was so cute how August used it to leave his version of flirty messages for Lucas to see. It also spiced up the steamy scenes quite a bit…
August and Lucas are my favourite couple so far, and this is absolutely a series I’ll keep up with. I can’t wait to see the other brother’s find their humans. If you like dark romance with suspense, where vigilante psychopaths find their HEAs and the true villains get what they deserve, this series should be right up your alley!

I simply don’t think this series is for me, even though I do like the idea behind it.
I mean, aside from everything else, the timeline of this relationship is already truly so bad:
August and Lucas meet and are insanely attracted to each other by chapter one, want to sniff each other’s neck and hump each other’s leg by chapter two, are entirely obsessed by chapter three, and are basically in love by chapter four.
Mind you, we’re working with moderately short chapters here.
Meanwhile, one of them is supposedly a psychopathic killer and the other is aware of that from the very beginning, but apparently this doesn’t seem to play a factor in their relationship. It’s pretty much insane and definitely ridiculous.
There is absolutely zero build-up here and everything happens way too fast for it to not feel inauthentic.
The things that happen are all pretty bizarre and outlandish. I feel like I have to suspend all my rational thinking skills, and I’m just not in the mood for that right now.
Nonetheless, I do have to say that I found August oddly.. endearing.
I also found this book quite funny. The way August’s brothers and Noah made fun of him was humorous, fun and even a little heart-warming. I definitely like the found family thing they’ve got going on.
Also just FYI, it is incredibly clear that these people are not actually psychopaths, and I cannot for the life of me understand why the author keeps insisting that they are. They’re just not.
It’s honestly just annoying when these supposed ‘psychopaths’ obviously experience a certain type of emotion, but then the author has them thinking something akin to “but obviously I can’t feel that emotion” and goes on to explain how it’s actually a different type of feeling they are experiencing, which, in truth, is basically the exact same thing as the first emotion. Like, huhhh???!?!
I was so confused every time she did that, and I was honestly contemplating whether she just thought we as readers were indifferent enough for her to get away with it not making any sense or if maybe she doesn’t understand it herself… Either way, I didn’t like it.
All in all, I just found this to be kinda unrealistic, stupid, boring, unfeeling and stand-offish.
Not even a possessive and obsessed “so-called psycho” can save this one for me. Sorry.
PS. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Noah and Adam’s cameos. I remember not liking their book all that much either (for basically the same reasons why I didn’t like this one), but they were very cute as a couple here.

When you're the self-described weirdest psychopath in a house full of psychopaths, things are bound to get strange. But August never anticipated Lucas crashing - quite literally - into his life.
And Lucas is terrified. Through psychometry, he can see what August has done - that he's a merciless killer. He should be running fast and far in the other direction. But instead, he lets August in. Allows August to see his deepest fears and insecurities. And in return, August shows him exactly who he is, too.
And with a serial killer far more sadistic and twisted than any of the Mulvaney's hanging around their city, it's clear that Lucas needs to be brought into the fold, and August is determined to protect him from this threat.
The deeper they look into what's going on, they deeper they also fall into each other. With complete openness and honesty, they communicate their needs and wants with each other. Where August allows Lucas to understand him on a deep level, August wants to understand Lucas in the same exact way.
And they do learn to understand each other. To care for and protect each other. To plan a future together. Noah said in the first book, and Lucas repeated it here. The Mulvaney men are all some level of crazy. They just need a partner who's crazy fits with theirs. And I have a feeling they'll all do just that.

I loved August and Lucas!! I think I even loved August more than Adam. Eek! Lucas was great. His “gift” was very interesting! I haven’t dealt with people who could have visions/feelings but I’d honestly like to know more. This couple was great. Don’t get me wrong, Adam and Noah are like psychopathic goals but I don’t know. August and Lucas were just different. I love the psychopath and FBI dynamic. Lol. I love how desperate August was for Lucas. I’m not sure if I could pick a favorite couple. They’re both so great in different ways. I can’t wait for the next book!!
