I mean, there are classes on Steinbeck for a reason. I didn't love everything or everyone, but it was very well written and characterized. It's very much like real life.
It was also really nice to visit California through Steinbeck's writing since I can't do it in person this year.

Steinbeck's "lesser" stuff is still heads and shoulders above many authors out there... The man completely kills it on character development...

Rather sensationalist stories of intertwined rural families living out their days in a beautiful fertile valley (where I am currently in California!) I loved it!
Il romanzo è nella realtà composto da tanti brevi racconti che hanno come protagonisti gli abitanti di un'unica comunità, quella che si è stabilita nella bellissima valle californiana chiamata I pascoli del cielo. Apparentemente un paradiso terrestre, è nella realtà un luogo come tutti gli altri, dove le persone si trovano ad affrontare le difficoltà, i dispiaceri, le disavventure che sono comuni a tutta l'umanità. Anzi, nella piccola comunità che popola la valle le ombre sembrano essere più fitte che in altri luoghi in apparenza meno ameni. Steinbeck, maestro della penna, ci racconta e ci fa conoscere i vari personaggi di cui ci svela le storie lasciando in noi un profondo senso di malinconia e tristezza che ci accompagna anche dopo la fine del libro.

Love love loved this little book! Such great vignette style story writing and Steinbeck really knows how to cut to the heart of humanity and tragedy. I did struggle to get through it at points but the final chapter made it worthwhile, very poignant and insightful. Can’t wait to delve more into his works
Vignettes of people who make up the community of Pastures of Heaven, California. Again Steinbeck shows the honest, broken, hopeful, selfish, and lost souls of people that we see every day. A gorgeous work of humanity.
