WWII are still hard for me to read after visiting Auschwitz last year. You really fall in love with these characters. I had recently read Jennifer Robson’s book Coronation Year and was pleased to see the character of Stella make an appearance in this story.
I read a review of this book saying it would tear your heart apart and put it back together again...now I get it. :) The main characters, Nina and Niccolo, are so amazing and lovable you never want anything bad to happen to them. But we also know it must...it's an incredible love story of resilience and strength during an incredibly dark time. Robson is an autobuy for me and never disappoints!

I loved the characters - I was also happy to see the a Jewish character have a relationship with a Catholic character without their Jewish faith being erased.
In order to survive a young Jewish women must hide with a remote family and pose as the wife of one if the family, Nico . This is a love story , a struggle and survival of the atrocities of WWII in Italy.
Like every book based on the horrific reality of war in the 1940’s, and the treatment of Jewish people, the book has a difficult storyline that often left me sad and overwhelmed at the reality of the time.
I did, however, have a hard time putting down this page-turner, in the hopes of Nina’s future.
Definitely a recommended read.
