I couldn’t put it down, but scared me to keep reading. Not scary in the sense that things pop out at you but the slow building tension and nervous unease I had for the characters while reading it. The beginning was a bit jumbled and took some time to get going/ straightened out, but once they were in the car it was a pure perfect horror.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I didn't love it while I was reading it, but I find myself looking back on it more fondly than I thought I would. Part of that is definitely because the fellas at Just King Things really liked it. I did find myself a bit underwhelmed with the Cujo POV parts. I feel like that was a little bit half-assed. It was there which was cool, but I do think that it could've been more consistent or played a larger role in the book as a whole. It has the usual King gratuitous sex and profanity, but as weird as that stuff can be to read, it really does do a lot for adding characterization (there are just other ways to add that), but we know what we're getting when we pick up a King book. Anyways, now to continue my journey and find myself a copy of Danse Macabre.

Book was better than movie.

LOVE this book. It's very sad for someone who loves dogs, but I think it's very well written and very gripping. I loved the parts that were written from Cujo's perspective. I thought the tie in to Frank Dodd's ghost was kind of weird and didn't really fit there, but Stephen King was wildly inebriated when writing this book so I can't say I'm entirely surprised Frank Dodd's ghost didn't have a very neat tie in. Either way, still a great book.

This was my Stephen King book for July. I didn't have any time to read in the month of August due to personal issues.

This book was not my favorite King story. Though it has many awesome moments (the monster in the closet has always stuck with me since I skimmed that chapter back in high school) much of the book is taken up with business meeting jargon and a fairly boring infidelity subplot. I think this would have been much better had King cut it down into a short story. Ironically, the character you feel for the most is Cujo. He's more interesting and memorable than the fairly standard main characters. Though I loved the bits from Cujo's point of view, showing his mind slowly deteriorating and the small subplot of the kid seeing the monster in the closet (seriously, what was that thing?) I can't deny that large chunks of this novel got to be a little boring. Not the worst King book, but not nearly one of the best.
