After reading the below reviews, I decided to put forth my own opinion about the latest book from Gena. Her books always have a formula. Most romance novels do. This is why I like romance novels, especially PNR novels because they don't venture too far off from the beaten path, and I know I'm in for an easy but entertaining read.
The main compliant I've read was that Scarlet was too wishy-washy. That she would bounce back from being a hard, kick ass woman to a woman who was crying over herself. It makes me kind of mad that women feel that a woman crying is considered a weakness. Maybe it's the social worker in me who've deal with abused and neglected children, but Scarlet's behavior as an adult was a perfect example of having been dealt with the short end of the stick. She went through hell, or thought she did, and in one moment is told that everything she believed was a lie. EVERYTHING. Yeah, she was a bit annoying with the whole 'we can't be together', but guys do it all the time, so I don't take heed to it, because I know in the long run, they are going to get together.
My favorite part of the book was when Gideon didn't have to lie since his demon was taking a long break getting reacquainted with HER lover, Nightmares. It was refreshing to read him speak without having to mental decipher what he was trying to say. Also, I thought it was pretty funny that Gideon's demon was a girl, and it's the first time Gena has put a gender on the demons. I liked that, because Gena is giving these beings shape and not just voices in our heroes' heads.
Chronus is becoming interesting, and although the Lords were against Chornus at first, as they said, if you can't beat them, join them. Better to work for him and have him help them than be completely against forces more powerful than them and get screwed over ALL.THE.TIME. He's kind of annoying, but then again, he's a Titan and all powerful so that's to be expected.
Aeron really pissed me off with his whole, "I won't be happy without her" spiel about Legion. But I guess it was a plot device to get them into Hell and mess up poor Amun. I hope for the sake of Amun, when he comes back around, he knocks the sh*t out of Aeron.
The only thing I didn't like about the book is the possibility of Strider being paired with Haidee aka Hadiee aka Bitch Who Killed Balen. I just don't get how she can EVEN think this would be believable, but it will be interesting to see. Also, I want Paris' and Torin's story so bad, I could scream. I like Amun and Strider, but I want these stories before the other two.

Loved reading this book again, it was such a great read, and I can't wait to continue on again!

Love this book, it was a bit sad, with Steel, and what her Aunt did, but I love Team Gidlet, and that she's the reason why he loves blue, and those little things that make a book excellent! Oh, and it was so funny when he realized that his demon was female!!!

I liked this one but it was a little harder for me to get through because I had to think more to interpret what he said into what he meant. I really did like Gideon though!
This just keeps getting better and better!
I think this was one of the most emotional reads!

Gideon, possessed by the demon Lies, captures Scarlet, possessed by the demon Nightmares, and much misadventure and romance follows.
This is one of many Showalter books I have read and generally they are good fun but this... this was a hell of a lot of work, and just did not keep my interest. It got to the point where I wanted to finish just because I'd read so much of it. Not on my recommend list

I'm in the minority on this one, people.
Unsurprisingly, The Darkest Lie was at least 100 pages longer than any other Lords of the Underworld book. Everything that Gideon says has to be a lie or he feels extreme pain. Such pain that he is incapacitated. All that are familiar with this series know very well what I'm talking about when I refer to "Gideon speak". For those that don't, when Gideon needs to say something like "I'm tired and need to sleep" he really has to say "I feel like I've slept for a week and really want to out." Half the time, Gena explained what Gideon was really saying and half the time she didn't. It was confusing and I wouldn't recommend starting out with this book.
In the last book, Gideon found out that he was (and still is) married to Scarlet--keeper of Nightmares. Only he has no memory of her. Not just that, but the Lords currently have Scarlet in their dungeon.
I liked this book because I liked Gideon. I've liked him from the start. I even liked Scarlet. She was an unorthodox heroine (to say the least) but not unlikable. What I didn't like was all the mythology, Greek and otherwise. It was very confusing, especially on top of all the Gideon speak. It was kind of like reading one of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books, actually. I never thought of it that way until now.
Something interesting about Scarlet was that while she did affect people's dreams in a bad way, she could affect the dreams of bad people. So she could affect the dreams of, say, Galen. That kind of backfires on her when Galen decides that he'll go to Gideon instead of waiting for Gideon to come kill him.
Honestly, the most interesting part of the book was where Aeron, Amum, and William go to Hell to rescue Legion. It shows an interesting side to both Amum and William, something I'm really looking forward to reading more about. We also get to learn more about Strider, someone that I can't wait to read more about.
My final verdict on this book is that while I enjoyed Gideon and Scarlet getting their happy ending, I enjoyed the secondary stories far more. I loved the progression of the series but I didn't love the book.
3.5 out of 5.

I was amazed by all the twists and turns this book took. In the Darkest Lie, the reader follows Gideon and Scarlet as they journey to discover if and whom has messed with their memories. Watching these 2 overcome their troubles was hilarious at times. I burst out laughing multiple times throughout this book. I loved their sarcastic comments and view ms of the world. I gave it a 4 star rating because it seemed to drag a little at the end. I think it could have been shortened and still have the same conclusions drawn. But otherwise, I loved the overall story.
