i did enjoy this book, and i liked the ending a lot, and how it talked about unhealthy relationships and trying to find safety in yourself and being alone. i also like the idea of it all being in couplets that don’t feel right, like the two relationships the main character has. i guess i didn’t fully understand why she switched between couplets and essays. i also don’t know if she used the couplets approach to its full potential. but also i don’t know a lot about poetry, and i did really enjoy reading this which is different than how i feel about a lot of poetry books. it wasn’t pretentious at all, and had a lot of really nice metaphors and lines and ideas. i think it’s a book i’m going to keep coming back to.

some parts were poignant, some parts were necessary. sometimes you need to hear about love from someone else’s perspective to understand what it’s really about.

As someone who doesn’t tend to read poetry (but would like to) - the narrative arc of this made it very accessible. Loved the creative structure. It was a beautiful read.

i enjoyed this a lot. i don’t have much to say about it besides that this made me a little envious that i have never written anything as beautiful as this before.

3.5: edgy, angsty, love and lust, being lost, self-discovery but self- deprecating tone, new york city dating, trying to satisfy what you want without knowing what that even is (“you could’ve had everything you wanted, had it been what you wanted”).

“this city is filled with stories like these, which is the real cause for the creepy electricity, the force of its seduction, that, and the bagels”

Devoured this in one sitting; it was stunning. Gave me poetry envy
