Throttled is the first book in the Dirty Air series. Maya Alatorre has just graduated from college and doesn’t know what she wants to do with her post-grad life. Her brother, Santiago, has just joined Bandeni, an elite F1 group of drivers. Maya joins him on the circuit filming vlog style videos of all the action. One of Santi’s new teammates is Noah Slade who is one of the best drivers in F1. He and Maya get off on the wrong foot (he mistakenly thinks that Maya and Santi are a couple rather than brother and sister). Towards the beginning of the book you learn that Noah grew up in a abusive household with very toxic parents. His romantic relationships (or lack there of), reflect his detachment. He and Maya eventually become closer, when their off the charts chemistry becomes undeniable. Noah starts going to therapy to unlearn some of the harmful things he learned about relationships from his parents. He and Maya eventually fall in love with each other, while traveling the world for F1.

This was a great start to an exciting sports romance series. I really appreciate the fact that Lauren Asher’s sports romance was about F1 rather than hockey or baseball, as is typical in romance. It was refreshing. Can’t wait to read the next book which is about Maya’s friend Sophie.

guys i’m not even gonna cap, i ate this book up. absolutely devoured it. and i’m on such a book high this week that i honestly can’t get over it.

okay so i started this book as a school read and then started reading like 3 books at the same time but these last two days i’ve dedicated myself to this book. AND I DONT REGRET IT.

i love maya and noah with all of my heart. from the beginning they were my babies. actually that’s a lie because i did have beef with noah for a hot second. but anyways i love these characters, i love this world completely.

literally the way they would talk about loving eachother TOOK ME OUT. i was literally in love with this couple.

love maya and noah<3

2.5

originally: 4/5(it’s a glorified four. more like a 3)
reread: 2.5/5

  • there was a lot of underlying misogyny—from maya and the other characters—which was a letdown.
  • santiago was a hot/cold character who pissed me off bc he overestimated maya’s naivety despite her only being a year younger than him. he acted really fucking entitled and selfish the entire time but had some cute/humorous moments to cover up his asshole-ness
  • there was a lot wrong with noah, but he had really good (tadbit rushed and poorly represented) development.
  • the spice wasn’t bad, but it was all smooshed in the second third of the book and it was just innuendos after that (which i didn’t mind but the sex was a bit excessive).
  • i don’t have any interest to read any of the other books in this series, it just didn’t feel like one of those books; yk?
  • the ending felt rushed and unsatisfactory compared to the rest of the book
  • i loved mayas development and how she stopped taking shit from her brother (aka she stood up for herself one time after her brothers’ 30’000 atrocities)
  • kinda bland but it was a fun read.
  •  i remember thinking (in the beginning) how i was thinking abt how slow the book was, only to be super rushed to finish
  • the way the chapters cut off kinda threw me for a loop but it was bareable ig?
  • THE DANCING SCENE !!!!!!!
  • but the misogyny was NOT it 👎👎👎

“The glint in his eye and the smile on his face promise more. That’s a problem for future me.” 🏎🏎🏎

Maya has just graduated and is not sure what direction to go in next. Her brother, Santi, is an Formula 1 racer and he decides to take her along. There she meets Noah Slade — F1 hottie with a fúćkäble body & a smile that makes girls weak at the knees. Maya cannot stand Noah, so she does everything to avoid him…. 😏😏😏

Maya & Noah are adorbs🥰 The banter and tension was good! Racing is not something I really know, so it was fun to get a peek into that world through this book. Noah’s character growth was fantastic — I freaking LOVED how self aware he was. 🙂 The spice 🔥😮‍💨 Overall I wasn’t as obsessed with this book as I thought I would be, but I will still check the rest of the books out!

3,5 this was good. I honestly didn’t think I would like it as much as I did and tbh I hope Santi is the lead for one of the other books. Some parts were annoying. It meh overall it was a good read.

Noah was so hot after he went to therapy🤪🤪
