O meu primeiro livro de Nancy Mitford e achei-o deliciosamente irónico e engraçado. É verdade que ler que Hitler era um "gajo porreiro" é um pouco ofensivo, mas este livro foi escrito antes dos terrores provocados pelo Hitler e numa altura que as pessoas não sabiam o monstro que ele era, mas Nancy descreveu os estados de alma da época, dos feitios dos ricos, um pouco loucos e ingénuos na sua mania de que podiam fazer o que quisessem. Achei as personagens um pouco doidas e cómicas e ridículas e acredito que era essa a sua ideia, gozando com o partido nazi, com os camisas negras (o partido faschista da GB) e a maluqueira das pessoas que seguiam esses ideais. Mal sabia ela o que viria acontecer no futuro próximo com a guerra a porta e a divisão na própria família, com duas irmãs dela ferverosas seguidoras de Hitler. Li este livro numa tarde de tão inolvidável estava na história. Boa leitura.

I was amused by the characters their names, lifestyle and interaction with each other. Wickedly entertaining. 
A 1930’s classic satire. 
Didn’t enjoy this one as much as others I’ve read by this author.
