Highly interesting, and a new approach to reading the ever wonderful and mysterious Batman.
my actual Rating is 3.5 out of 5 stars.
(I can't use halves here on GoodReads)
The book is an interesting read and I was able to recognize some of the stuff from my psychology classes in college. not going to lie I was proud of myself for that.
Not going to lie, it was more dense than I thought it would be. I wasn't expecting a dive into the "Freudian world" which is where the minus 1 point came from. and the other 1 1/2 point came from it not being what I thought the book was going to be. felt a bit drawn out. Honestly, What was I thinking it would be? Im not sure. well- I guess I expected more Batman. I don't know, it's actually 100% what the title says. and it was interesting enough for my ADHD brain to follow though.
So I'd recommend it for Batman and psyche nerds. OR for those who want to learn about psychology, this is a really good step into psychology as a whole. and Plus Batman is awesome!
Also, Dr.Langley's "diagnosis" of Batman, was what you would have expected.
Spoiler alert: he's not a crazy lunatic. in the context of the Gotham world. in the "real" world, he probably would be. but, he's not real. only in our hearts.

This explores the psyche of Batman and his villains very well. The book is written like a scholarly work and it findings are based on real studies. Insightful book.

While Langley poses some interesting thoughts and ideas, I gotta say a lot of his takes are ones I either outright disagree with, or feel grossly approach various characters and topics from a one-note, half-baked point. And that alone is enough to have lost any respect or excitement I had going into this book.
A definite must read for all my fellow Batman fans.

This was a really interesting analysis of Batman and his villains. Langly did a good job blending pop culture with psychology to explain different disorders and psych theories.
As someone who is interested in Batman as a character and in psychology, this was a fascinating read. I only wish that Mr. Langley had expanded the scope of the book to cover not only Batman but also other allies like Batwoman and Batgirl. I really enjoyed the chapters on fatherhood, trauma and the Robins. Overall, good read :)
