This book will never not be five stars for me. I love this trilogy and will reread it as many times as possible. I don’t know what draws me to it but Aimee did something special here and I absolutely loved Henry and Kate.
2nd read: June 2020
This book was my favorite in middle school and it still holds so much sentimental value for me. Also, Henry was one of my first fictional boyfriends & definitely still is.

I'm sort of conflicted on how to review this book. On the one hand, it was entertaining and I did "like it" - at least as much as I've liked other things I've rated 3 stars. Objectively, I think it was fairly well-written: the characters were generally well-developed (even if Kate was a bit of a guilt-ridden wet blanket). The scenes were developed well; word choice was not overly simple or used poorly, etc. The premise was interesting.
I suppose my main problem with this was that, the entire plot is SO contrived. If you thought some mysterious hot guy you met in the dark brought a person back to life from a very obviously fatal head injury, would you REALLY tell anybody about that? Especially if you'd never had any friends and didn't want any? How could you trust them to not have you committed? Or tell the entire school? It just didn't make any sense. I would have preferred if the story opened once she had already agreed to hang out in Eden and give the Goddess Test the old college try. "I never thought I'd be here, but Henry had proven to me that he was, in fact, the God of the Underworld, and I was able to have real time with my mother now to say goodbye." Etc. Or something.
Basically I couldn't help but scoff at this, even though that's the only reason I can really think of for WHY I scoffed, and it did, in fact, resolve.

until the very end when it was made apparent that the rest of the Pantheon was made up of all of the characters that had been introduced in any detail already, including the few random people she met in Eden (and in fact, Eden doesn't even exist)Basically I couldn't help but scoff at this, even though that's the only reason I can really think of for WHY I scoffed, and it did, in fact, resolve.
You know, if my mythology teacher ever got a hold of this book, I know she'll be tearing her hair out in frustration at the absurdity of this lot of nonsense. But nonsense or not, I am guilty of enjoying this - a lot.
But I'm not going to lie, when they first introduced Hades as 'Henry' I almost died. I mean common people, he's HADES.... like LUCIFER (kinda). But you know what I mean- you don't go around giving Lucifer a name like...Larry.
But anywhoos... Henry (*cough*) is looking for a new bride after his wife, Persephone, had forsaken her own immortality to love a human. He has gone though many potential brides but they have all ended up dead. His last hope lies with Kate Winters who has to pass 7 tests in order to gain immortality and stay with Henry.
This book was so much more than I had expected. It's not great by any means, but it certainly had its fair share of excitement. There were a couple of surprises along the way which kept me from being bored and I was pretty much hooked the second Kate entered Henry's realm.
Good book- good plot, characters, etc. The ending was shaky but I have high hopes for the sequel!

Wow it was pretty amazing. I read than less than 24 hours (: I cannot wait to read the next one good thing it comes out soon (:
the first time i read this - i loved the world and the way inspiration from greek mythology had been taken despite the blaring inconsistencies. after reading again I realise the plot is quite wayward and the constant rambling of the fmc begins to become repetitive
Is it just me? Or was there a dissapponitment factor? Don't get me wrong, it was a beautifully written story and I really enjoyed it, but I wish it had talked more about the actual myths of the Greek gods. It was a real disappontment for me.
Other than that, it was great. Kate was kinda whiney sometimes, but she was strong. And Henry...hot. Can I get an Amen? H-O-T, hot! Much better than I expected. I loved them together, even if at first they were a little stiff.
It was mature without being rated R, there was subtle humor, and at least there was SOME reference to Greek mythology, even if it isnt the desired level. Maybe I wouldn't recommend it to a fan of The Percy Jacksons, but anyone who enjoys a good love story (guilty) you'll enjoy this.

If you want to a read a super cliched book about a girl moping uselessly while failing to do anything that the premise promises, go for it.
If you want to keep all your teeth in your head, then don't.

I had this book on my e-book self for a while relucent of reading it. I did then and I found myself quite... intrugued.
When she reached Eden to have her mother's last wish completed, Kate finds more than she was waited for. A mansion, a mysterious boy and the whole Olympian Gods. With a murderer on the loose and her raging feelings for Henry, Kate will have to be brave as also open enough to love.
I liked the development, I didn't expect the last chapters to become like that as also the way the feelings were shown. Henry was truly a pained character and I wished for him the happy ending. Usually we see male characters who are strong and reliable and Henry wasn't like that. Instead Kate was the one to warm him up and teach him love and hope.
For that quick read I am hoping to find out more about them on the second book! :)
