I've read this 3 times. It's so geeky. If you like Star Trek and geek humor, you'll like this.

I really liked the premise and thought some of the book was entertaining and there were some interesting ideas. Great narration.

But the pacing was really inconsistent, there was a lack of stakes/ tension/ character motivation/ development and I just didn't feel super engrossed in the book. There were also zero developed female characters.

i ebjoyed that the Bobs had different personalities, liked their ar vision things. I think it would have been interesting to see more of Bob the human before he became a program. Then the reader could have compared the different Bob versions to the original. I think the story would've benefited from including a more developed human character/ alien character to make the reader care more about the earth and new species plotlines and add some tension and stakes. Because Bob can't really die, it felt like there wasn't any stakes or tension. Also Bob being a genius who could solve any problem didn't help. Also his motivation was confusing at times - like I'm not sure why he decided to start intervening with the new species he found when he originally was adamant about leaving them alone. Also the discussion of the ethics of making more Bobs is immediately dropped as soon as Bob needs more Bobs

Imagine a nerdy white guy gets hit by his car, and in the future he awakes as an AI that will be put in a spacecraft. The progression from man to spacecraft reminds me of the video game Spore, where there are different phases to this story (human --> AI --> we're in space, baby). If that sounds interesting to you, you're in luck!

The ending cut off abruptly, like as if I reached the end of a pilot episode for a new series. I'm open to picking up the sequels in the future but I am hyperaware of my endless tbr.
