This book had me from the first page. It was such an impacting first moment in a story, then to read about this timid but vibrant young soul, it was priceless.

Timid is the perfect title for this book! Willa is a timid soul, a shy, sensitive, insecure child who got hooked into Jackson when she saw him for the first time. She was seventeen, in the gas station store, deciding between one or two Snickers. When he entered, she was rendered speechless and smitten. For seven years, she nurtured this crush. She went away to college, where it waned a bit, and when she returned home, it came back with a vengeance. Everyone in town knew about her crush, except the recipient of the honors.

When one day he appears out of nowhere and kisses her senseless, then leaves, like a fugitive star, she’s so full of hope and ambition. Only to be knocked down next day.

I loved this book, the romantic feeling it has throughout, the dance of courting between this couple. Jackson is clueless most of the book, but once he’s aware and engaged, he’s one determined man after his prize. Once he really saw Willa, he realized that there was this gorgeous woman, right in front of him and he’d never seen her. Willa is sweet, understanding and considerate. As she and Jackson deepen their relation, Jackson starts to realize she is so much more than he had ever expected, much less felt to deserve. When he starts to doubt himself, he never expected to have such a staunch champion. Because even though Willa is timid and shy, she’s like a lion when she’s defending her dear ones.

This book was entertaining, sweet, heartwarming, romantic and sometimes funny, a great read.

FMC was too wimpy for me. Loved that she provided unconditional love and patience with MMC but he was super flawed and I dislike drugs and alcohol problems as an excuse.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I didn’t expect to like this one as much as I did. It definitely took me sometime to fall in love with it; mostly because the FMC was pretty PATHETIC and I have never liked the “girl obsessed trope” but the more I listened, the more I fell in love with the story. In the first book, I didn’t particularly like the true crime factor the books had because honestly I just wanted a cute small town romance not the scary stuff but it was the most compelling part of this story. I was so invested in how that whole saga tied up the plot and I think it was beautifully done.
That does mean tho that for me, the romance was at the back of my mind. I didn’t quite think Jackson deserved Willa and Willa herself need to grow a pair. I also didn’t like how she had to always be the one to fight for him and roll over to make accommodations for his bullshit but I think as they progressed he became deserving; Willa’s mum also had some really good advice about relationships that made me think I was judging them too much so I tried to understand Jackson more and even tho I don’t love him as a character, I love him and Willa together.

Amazing

Timid was everything and more one could hope for when we first saw Willa and Jackson in Tattered. Devney did an amazing job with their storyline! I'm sad I read it so quickly and now have to wait until November for Piper's story. An amazing, fantastic, heart-warming read!
