This book kept coming up on lists recommended as similar to Gone Girl... I'm not sure that it holds the same suspense and twists as Gone Girl... But it was a good read in the mystery/crime genre anyway. If you like Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon, you'll like Erika Foster. I did, however, have the murderer pegged about halfway through....

I'd actually give this book 3 1/2 stars. It grabbed my attention from the beginning and I found the crime itself intriguing. The problem for me was that I felt like I missed something vital about the main character that was never really explained. Instead of being the first in the series this in many ways felt like a follow-up in relation to Erika. To date I'm undecided as to if I will continue the series

A cold blooded murder…where the victim is frozen in water…

The Girl in the Ice by Robert Bryndza is the first in a series of mystery novels following DCI Erika Foster, a brilliant detective still mourning her husband…

When the daughter of a crooked politician is found dead in a museum lake; DCI Foster is called in to help helm up the team.

Unfortunately local complications soon hinder her pursuit (as well as unreliable witnesses).

This has the heavy feeling or a British Nordic mystery though I found it fairly brisk to get through…

I may try the other volumes…

This book took me about 80 pages before I got into the story. Once I did though, wow!

This story was gripping from that point on and kept you guessing till the last minute who the bad guy was and what was going to happen. I especially liked the character development that occurred with many of the characters in this book.

The plot twist in the book was amazing! I also found the mistakes made by these characters made them more believable and relatable.

It was suspenseful and gripping, but it is important to know that there are graphic parts to this thriller that may not be everyone's cup of tea. For me, I felt it added depth to the realness of the case they were trying to solve.

Erika grew the most for me and it makes me want to come back to read more stories of her.

I....LOVED IT!! Definitely recommend it! From the very start, I was hooked.

After a leave of absence after a raid gone wrong (it's hinted at and then subtly described but enough to tug heart strings), Erika is brought back in to take the lead on a murder case. The case is Top priority because the victim, Andrea Douglas-Brown ((Spoiler Alert: she's found in ice)), is the daughter to a very powerful and influential business man with strong political connections. Erika puts everything into the case, but meets with trouble every step of the way. The family are very hush-hush, they have the commissioner and even Erika's boss in their hands. Not wanting to anger a powerful family, they often tell her to lay off or tread carefully. But Erika is a strong woman and one of conviction and digs deeper. It's apparent they are hiding something. And what she finds is a twist that, simply, was amazing but also made such complete sense. Thinking back to how obvious it could have been made me think of Sherlock Holmes.

This was a very well written, thought out story. I would love to read the next one. I'd read all of them. Fingers crossed that will happen, and it may if I quit buying my daughter books and actually bought a few for myself 😀 👍 👌
