I enjoyed this more than I thought I was going to. The mix of western, witches, and horror work so well together.

This book was so much fun. It's a simple Western adventure horror story that has a lot of heart and understands its own identity.
I found that Alex Grecian did such a wonderful job capturing the tone of the story through his very simple prose. There were moments where he would hold back on describing something that just happened but your imagination fills in the blanks, which I felt like I haven't read in many books before. I was excited when Grecian wanted me to be excited and I was sad when he wanted me to be sad! he's a super efficient writer and the book felt short despite being just about 450 pages. There are a lot of perspective changes in this book too, which I really appreciated. but there are a couple chapters where the perspective will shift cinematically will most like a "camera" is following, not a character, but a message or an item , and I think it was done so well.
I also really found a lot of the characters charming including the villains and the various monsters that are characters come upon. I think there was one character who I didn't really care for but thankfully he never overstays his welcome. but I would just like to elevate how he wrote Sadie Grace the witch. She was my favorite character in this story. She's just such a competent and smart character and it was a really fun dichotomy rooting for our protagonists who are actively hunting her down while also wanting to see how the witch gets out of her situation. It was just great character building.
I really don't have too many criticisms for this book. if I am nitpicking I would say that maybe there's too many random characters and names tossed around in the book, which at times can be a little confusing. This does not even including characters who shapeshift, or monsters that possess multiple people, or the many ghosts that we see in the story. Which didn't bother me too much but I fear may alienate some readers.
Overall, I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a fun, violent rootin-tootin cowboys and shootin', adventure with elements of body horror and paranormal horror thrown into the mix. it really felt like I was reading a folk tale or learning about old legends from the Western frontier.
