I’m conflicted after this one. I wish the pacing was quicker, as this took me a bit to get through. I’m not sure why the author chose to use the words he did to describe characters - this book is way too recent to still rely on race related identifiers. Sure it’s historical, but it also is full of witchcraft and fantasy. There was both lots of character development, but I also feel like I didn't learn much about them as I could’ve. Great gore descriptors though.

This book is amazing! I love the Western horror subgenre, and this book has everything you could ever want. Witches, devils, ghosts, a centuries-old huntsman, haunted forests, and ghoul towns. I couldn’t get enough. I highly suggest adding it to your TBR! 📚see description below⬇️

4.5 stars rounded up. This was a really interesting, creative, and enjoyable book. I did feel it was a bit emotionally distant, perhaps because of the large cast of characters. It was very plot focused and I didn't have as deep of a sense of who the characters were as people. The ending brought much more emotional resonance, which I appreciated, and I loved the way it all came together.
