I visited Bremen, Germany in 2018 and adored the statue based on this tale.

2 years later, I finally experienced the story with this amazing video.

Spoiler I admired how these different animals came together to build a home and a family after being discarded by their humans.
However the title is misleading, as they don't join the town band and instead make music and merry on their own.

I have never actually read this fairy tale before, I just kept watching the USSR cartoons of it whenever it came on the TV. Turns out, it is a pretty interesting story about working animals scaring off bandits after all of their owners tried to get rid of them. Pretty good overall.

I have the complete set of the Grimm Fairy-Tales, and there are so many that I haven’t read! They are very short, as one would know, so I have decided to read each one and give them a review. Some are very vulgar, some are very cute and some don’t even make sense. Some of them are well known fairy-tales and some have never been told. Some are fairy-tales we know but are not the same because they have been downplayed for the children.

This story is about four old animals escaping death from their masters. They are on their way to Bremen to be town-musicians when they come upon a house full of robbers and their goodies.

So what happens next? Do they try and take the house and the goodies? Do they fall to the hands of the robbers? Do they scare them away? What about that witch the robbers were talking about?

This is a cute story about working together.

This odd tale is very odd but entertaining. There seems to be no real point to the book but I'm sure that if I read it again several times I would find a moral or a point to the story.

This retelling of the classic folktale finds four animals who come together after their masters force them out of their homes. The art is a stylized painterly technique and it shows key scenes from the animals’ previous lives and their new lives together. For use with children, I think it would be good to do a simple animal craft or even have them make their own music as it is such a central theme.
