Gorgeous end to this trilogy. Robin Hobb is a master of the realistic ending - sometimes your love is lost, your friends and family have passed, and that is the way it needs to be. The political intrigue kept me engaged and the action was paced well. Delighted to find out there is another trilogy that I have not read yet!

The ending was a bit drawn out but I loved the final final ending, so wholesome.

God. Probably the hardest RotE book to rate so far -- I loved the majority of it, and sobbed all through at least two chapters, but I have so many qualms with the ending (cathartic as it is to see Fitz finally truly at peace, it really doesn't feel believable or satisfactory for
him and Molly to get back together, let alone so soon; it just seems like too much time has passed for them to fall so easily back into it, especially with the recency of Burrich's death, and I have to wonder if whatever feelings persist are just love for the idea of what used to be, not the current reality, especially given how... tepid it feels compared to the literally fate-altering devotion in those chapters I cried over
) and enough discontent with how Thick is written (by far more nuanced and respectful than I would have expected of a character with Down syndrome, as he seems pretty objectively coded as, written in the early 2000s -- or perhaps even today -- but not without issues) that it's hard to reconcile those feelings. I'd feel remiss to pass either over for the other, so I'll lean closer to what I felt for probably the greater 90%, but I admit the conclusion does leave a bit to be desired.

Slow book with lots of repetition as seems to be the style of this author, not as repetitive as some of their earlier works. Enjoyable for listening to while crafting. Plot follows Fitz through character development as an adult.

Beautiful story on how despite how difficult living with trauma is, doing so is what makes us human.

LEGGERI SPOILER

In that last dance of chances

I shall partner you no more.

I shall watch another turn you

As you move across the floor.

In that last dance of chances

When I bid your life goodbye

I will hope she treats you kindly.

I will hope you learn to fly.

In that last dance of chances

When I know you'll not be mine

I will let you go with longing

And the hope that you'll be fine.

In that last dance of chances

We shall know each other's minds.

We shall part with our regrets

When the tie no longer binds.
