I really liked the beginning, but the book slowed down A LOT and at some point I was just annoyed at Cassie.

The showdown was laughable and way too fast compared to the rest of the book. It all just came together in two or three chapters and the resolution was VERY obvious.

It felt like I was reading the second season of "You" from a womans perspective ...

Cassie Woodson had everything going for her working as a lawyer at a great law firm. Then she was fired as part of a scandal and became infamous in the lawyer-set. Now, she is doing temp work as a lawyer. Doing drudge work going through emails and files. Through these emails, she becomes aware of what she sees as the perfect man, Forest Watts, and quickly becomes obsessed. Reading through emails exchanged between Forest and his wife, Cassie learns more and more about him. She works to form herself into the perfect woman for him.

This was mostly enjoyable but was a bit much for me. I just didn't "get" Cassie as a character. I had a hard time suspending disbelief for large chunks of this story. But, if you are a fan of thrillers about love and obsession, this may be perfect for you.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy!

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and kept me engaged. There were a few things that didn’t ring true for me and so I knocked it down to 4 stars.

Down-on-her-luck Cassie takes a temp job at a ritzy law firm because it appears she has nowhere left to turn after her own personal and career woes. While reviewing emails for a big case at the firm, along with an assembly line of temps, she comes across private emails between a handsome, rich lawyer and his beautiful, cultured wife. Cassie gets swept away by the emails that depict their enviable lives and their romantic love for each other. If only she could have that life, things would be perfect.

The emails entice her to start her own investigation into their lives beyond the emails. This quickly turns into obsession where she's basically stalking them virtually and in person. Will she get caught? Will she discover any insidious secrets while on the prowl?

From the start, this thriller debut drew me in with its succinct yet highly descriptive writing. You'll get the goods on the lifestyle Cassie covets. You get a peek into the very unglamorous life of a legal temp. You wonder what may really be going on in Cassie's mind. The suspense builds and builds while Cassie gets dangerously close to her "targets". Every page encourages you to turn to the next one and so forth. I found it exciting and a great read.

My only issues were some storylines that were not resolved with Cassie and found the epilogue a little too far-fetched. Despite this, I thought this was highly entertaining and perfect for those looking for a new suspense novel after exhausting all the other more famous writers in the genre. This author will be one to watch. I really enjoyed this book and was thankful to receive it.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine, Ballantine Books for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! It was a pleasure!

I knew this wouldn’t be great. I just wanted something easy to read to take my mind off of things but lmao this was so bad it was laughable. This MC took delusional to a whole other level

I wanted to read this book as it was being compared to YOU that is one of my favorite book series. I love Joe and the whole idea of being stalked is one of my deepest most ingrained fears so this book should have been perfect for me. I really enjoyed those aspects of those books. The only problem with this book is I did feel as if it rambled in place but that very well could have been a specific choice so I am not to upset about it. This was definitely good had some amazing twist and turns and kept me interested the whole time.

Thank you to Random House and Ballantine for letting me read this book early. This one publishes July 27.

I couldn't get into this one! The stalker vibes, which I thought would be like the You series by Caroline Kepnes, left me wanting more. I think I just went into this one with too high of hopes. I do hope you read this one and enjoy it, but it wasn't for me.

Cassie is working a temp job and struggling to make ends meet. She gets very into reviewing correspondence which is part of her job, but she takes it too far. When a certain person catches her eye and she also has access to his personal emails, she becomes obsessed. When she tries to embed herself in this persons life to be part of the narrative, it goes to a completely new level.
