Edited 1/20/2016 to add: I was disgusted to hear that the narrator for this series had pled guilty to accosting a child for immoral purposes, but completely and totally shocked when over the course of the day Karen Marie Moning used her Facebook page to support and defend him. Even going so far as to say she was using him as the narrator in the next book in the series while deleting and hiding comments from readers who were concerned over this. I can’t support this author or this series any longer.

********** SPOILERS AHEAD FROM PREVIOUS BOOKS**********************

I love the Fever series. Love, love, love. The first five books are my crack, cliffhangers and all. I was kind of side-eyeing Iced when I found out it would be about 14-year-old Dani, but KMM got me again and I ended up under Mega’s spell. Then came Burned, which other than some sexy Lor moments kind of left me in meh zone. Mostly because I am at my Mac and Barrons drama limit and can take no more, and also because who was this Jada person showing up out of nowhere taking my beloved Dani’s place? I mean I got the why KMM had to age Dani to move the series forward, but I was still not completely on board with the new her. But whatever, I was going to read Feverborn no matter my concerns. I had my fingers crossed stuff would happen. We’d see more Jada/Dani and get some information on what happened to her in the Silvers. Mac would ditch the invisibility and she and her honey would be good again. The plot would move forward. Ryo and Dani (oops, I mean Jada) would do SOMETHING other than bicker. You know stuff. Questions answered stuff.

That did not happen. In fact, not much of anything happened, which led me to start asking people on Twitter and GR how many more books were left in this series. The answer seems to be two, at least, I think there are two books. I get the feeling that could change at any time.

First let me tell you what I liked:

--There is a better understanding of why Dani invented her Jada persona. I get it, truly I do. Her time in the Silvers was hell, she needed to invent this other person to survive. I think even Ryodan, Mac and Barrons get it now too.
--Dancer. Because I love Dancer.
--Christian. Because I love Christian.
--Christian realizing what happened to his uncle at the end of Burned. I was kind of afraid NO ONE would know for an extremely long time.
--Mac not being invisible anymore.
--Mac and Barrons sexy times. Although wasn’t she pissed at him about the erasing her memory thing last book? But at least, it seems like they are back on track.
--Mac trying to access the book inside her.

Now here’s my frustrations:

--Dani/Jada and Ryodan’s relationship doesn’t really move forward in any way. She lets him tattoo her, which I thought would lead to something, but, in fact, goes absolutely nowhere. There was that hand against the door thing and he does save her at the end while getting burned all to hell, but that’s about it. We already know he’s got feelings for her and she used to think he was the big, bad superhero to her sidekick, so when is their relationship going to evolve? I’m ready for a budding romance or hell, even them talking civilly to each other. SOMETHING.
--Really no questions answered about the black holes other than they are working on it. They know where they are popping up and Mac senses some music or something inside them. Dancer has some friends helping him solve the problem, but you don’t really get any information on those people other than their names and that Dancer trusts them.
--Cruce is trying to break out (of course he is) and has a plan. What plan?
--Alina might be alive. Or could be someone posing as Alina. Or Mac might have brought her back to life unknowingly in her grief. To be honest, I was not thrilled about the new Alina thing. Another plot thread introduced that has to be wrapped up.
--You don’t even get to see Kat and Kasteo and only one scene with Jo and Lor.
--Shazam. I can’t even deal with the Shazam thing. I wasn’t expecting it and while I understand that it was probably thrown in there to emphasize the depth to which Dani had to go to survive in Silvers Hell, I still had that moment where I rolled my eyes.
--Apparently there is a tribunal that, I don’t know, governs the Nine? Only a few mentions of them and that Ryo and Barrons don’t want their changing of Dageus to get out because there could be trouble. What trouble? Who are these people? I thought the Nine were like the badasses of the universe and now there is this body of people who keep them in line?
--Also, the thought of Chloe grieving for Dageus and not knowing he’s still alive, but changed, KILLS ME. I read their book. I loved it. Stop messing with already established HEAs.
--The cliffhanger ending, which leads me to believe the next book will spend a ridiculous amount of time on Mac and Barrons again. I’m ready for Dani and Ryodan to be center stage. Let poor Mac and Barrons have their HEA and quit messing with it.

So really, I have way more questions than answers after reading Feverborn. I was ready for at least some of the plot threads to begin to wrap up, but that didn’t happen. How in the world will all these questions be answered in TWO MORE BOOKS? I feel like new info keeps getting thrown out there on top of what’s already going on and no real advancement in the story arc is being made. At this point, I’m not even overly excited for the next book in the series, just still very frustrated. Final Grade- D+

Dammit Karen. That ending! Gah! I have been a fan of these books since the very first Highlander novel I got my hands on. I've been with Mac since her first introduction as a bubbly blonde who loved rainbows. I miss that girl and that's one of the reasons I spent much of this book exasperated. I know it's a whole new world and Mac has changed but what I wouldn't give to see some rainbow girl! Not very much happens plot wise in this book. (Except for that one twist!! What?!?!?!) I feel it's more of a filler, more character driven. The last chapter or two pushes the plot along and leaves you with a good old cliff hanger that made me scream out loud. If you love Karen's books you will no doubt love this one as well. Or at the very least keep reading because of that damn cliff hanger. Gave it four stars, but it's really 3.5.

Amazing as usual!!!!!!! OMG!! I feel like I can't really say anything without spoiling it. JUST GO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ending surprised the *%# out of me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, M****r F****r!!

I want more of the Nine. More of Kat. More Jo and Lor. More Jada/Dani and Ryoden. More. More. More.

And what a cliff hanger. Gah!

This ends on a cliffhanger.

This took me over a year to read. Once I put it down I just had no interest in picking it back up again. I didn't really enjoy it until the last few chapters. It took being chained together in the same room for Jada and Mac to finally talk.

I was over the story and over Jada. I still loved Mac and Barrons but just wanted the story to wrap up.

BEFORE:

I'm faithful till the end, but honestly.... I want Dani BACK!!

Shelf Mac, she's had her time in the lime light...too many monkeys egging on about wanting more when the core audience is DYING for DANI AND RYO!

I have faith.

I have faith....

I have lots of damn time till this gets out!

AFTER:
I DID enjoy this one! Did it feel like questions where answered? Not really, things sorta just managed along with the huge inter weaving stories in between.

BUT we spotted glimpses of DANI inside Jada, that was a huge satisfying blurb!!!

I actually enjoyed the interactions of Mac, and the mysterious look alike blonde running around that seems ever-so familiar. Barrons rocked my world DUH!

Was it everything I wanted it to be?

Maybe not. But FeverSong is like thirteen months away (I anticipate a set back, or four)

I can't wait for the next one. This series leaves you always wanting more.

Warning: very minor spoilers!

This book definitely eclipsed Burned. I really liked it, I just don't think it's as strong as Iced and the early Fever books.

Finally we get more Dani/Jada. This was definitely the strongest part of the book--endearing, painful, wonderful. I loved that Dancer put Ryodan and Mac in their places and set the tone for treating Jada like a real human being. I must say, the newest character that Jada introduced was super surprising and the mystery involved there is gut wrenching. I just have to know now what really went down!

Mac's POV was much better than in Burned but still had me skipping pages of useless boringness. And, come on---how could she be that daft about her sister AND the sweeper? she is smarter than that!! I just felt like her part of the story wasn't so crucial and could have been cut way down.

I think one of the weaknesses of this book is all the many POVs. like, was it absolutely necessary to get so many pages of Christian at the funeral? or to describe how Christian and Mac were going to go to the general store to get shovels?

To me, Jada's character did seem a little inconsistent with her character in Burned. in Burned, she's set on killing all these people one by one--and then in Feverborn, she saying she was so excited to get back to Dublin she was expecting it to be the best day of her life. huh? in Burned she says she most anticipates her fight with Daku--what's up with that? no mention of Daku in Feverborn! but I definitely like her better in this book than in Burned.

I did really enjoy Lor stepping to the plate and showing off his fine brain. hilarious. and his reaction to Dani all grown up was so sweet.

The Jada/Ryodan parts trumped all. Awesome!

I'm surprised we still don't know what Dancer is and who is behind WeCare! grrr gonna have to wait till the next book to find out!!! can't wait for more Jada/Ryodan action!!!! :D

Tiens j'avais oublié la dernière phrase

While I enjoy the series, this book just seemed like filler. Repetitive descriptions of people, relationships, and no real movement in the storyline.

Read the kindle version and without page numbers, thought I had more story to read at the end. Last 11% of the book was a collection of definitions and descriptions of people, places. Almost like this book was an introduction to those who have not read previous books in the series.
