Why do I have to wait so long for the next book???? Love KMM, love this series, love the characters. This book was no different from the others in that my reading of it was complete and utter engagement - they make me cry, they make me miss my own sister, they make me want to throw the book across the room, they make me gasp in surprise, they make me talk back to them (and as much as Dani annoyed me in Shadowfever, these books even have me yelling "Dude!" at them). If you haven't read these books - go right now and read them. Seriously. If you gave up after Shadowfever and had no interest in reading Iced (that was me), suck it up and go read Iced so that you can read Burned and then this book. Seriously, go.
Look at me. I finished a book. In under 2 months. I'm beginning to think I should have lowered my book goal for the year.
I liked this book, but I'm totally burned out with the series and having entire books where not much happens. I'm not going to look for the next publication date. I'm going to let it be for loooong while and maybe someday come back to it when either the series is finished or there is a good stack of books I haven't read. But even a stack of books may not be enough to entice me back if I know the lady one is going to end in another lame cliff hanger.

I started this book, got irritated with Jada and had to put it down. I picked it up again and found myself miffed over something else and put it back down. Rinse and repeat that cycle about two more times and I finally -- finally (and about 4 books in between) finished it.
All that said, I absolutely loved this book, it was a little slow at first, but the ending kind of make it worth it. A good bit is revealed about some characters, Jada, in particular. (Which might of been part of the reason why I did not rush back to it, I have a unique love/hate for Jada/Dani.) The Nine remain as mysterious as ever and Mac has even more to deal with, namely a sister that might not be as dead as she thought. Ehhh.. sure, it was frustrating as heck, but that's because I'm invested into these characters and sometimes, they drive me batty.

So that took me a while to get through, which is really disappointing. I'm kind of repeating everyone here, but I think I'm tired of Mac and Barrons. Mac has become super annoying, and I never thought she was before. I don't know if it's just because she keeps moaning about the same things that we've gone over before or what, but it made reading her POV both boring and irritating. For me, the biggest problem with Mac was that she spent so much time thinking about everything over and over again. She was so cautious and afraid to do anything that she did nothing. That gets old and doesn't make for a very interesting story. Especially, after we just spent a book in which she was invisible and an observer. So she goes from that to doing more of nothing in this book because she's too afraid and in denial. I just feel like at this point Moning has nothing left for Mac as a character. She should have just stopped while she was ahead at book five.
In the end, not much happened. I can't even tell you what plot there was; the story dragged so much. It was just a bunch of nothing and then a dumb cliffhanger. It was mostly three things: the book, Alina, and sex with Barrons. Dani/Jada has definitely become the most interesting part of the series at this point. I still don't know why we got all of [b:Iced|12444166|Iced (Fever, #6)|Karen Marie Moning|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1333022535s/12444166.jpg|17427104] from her POV, only to go back to Mac. Maybe fans weren't happy with that decision and the direction of the story and Moning tried to cater to them. Whatever the case, I don't like the direction of the story now. Preferably Jada will be in the next installment more than Mac.

Seriously what is the point of her coming back to life??
This wasn't my favorite installment, but it was clearly necessary to tie up some loose ends and kickstart the final chapter.
We get to know a little bit more about what happened to Jada/Dani silver-side and we also get to see all the characters begin to empathize with eachother and thaw to some measure of compassion. We got to see some steamy Barrons/Mac sex scenes (always welcome). We got to see Mac lay some adult-style boundaries and ground rules for her interactions with the Nine and Barrons. No more petulance or acting out just to rebel. She says what she needs and follows through.
Also, the freaking plot device of the Sweeper who is a giant trash heap made of cogs (WTF?) who employs zombie ghouls to track his potential prey (WTF - not on brand) AND has a weird surgical suite where he operates on people to fix them? All of a sudden it felt like a totally different series. These books have never been about science experiments or medical torture. That's a new plot device and I don't like it. It doesn't jive with the atmosphere Moning has constructed this far.

It's pretty bananas that Mac finally got caught out by the freaking Sinsar Dhu and is now possessed! But I'm glad that she was able to warn Jada first (who disarmed her of the spear) and now we don't have to suffer Too much from Fake-Mac tricking people by pretending not to be possessed)Also, the freaking plot device of the Sweeper who is a giant trash heap made of cogs (WTF?) who employs zombie ghouls to track his potential prey (WTF - not on brand) AND has a weird surgical suite where he operates on people to fix them? You know it's going to be a good week when a Fever book is released!!
I liked this SO much better than 'Burned'
It made me laugh, it made me cry (Dani & Shazam), it made me want to have sexy time with Barrons (again), and it made me impatient for the next book.
Pros: We learn some about what Dani/Jada faced inside the silvers. Jada may not be quite so frigid. We see the internal struggles she is dealing with. Mac is back! As in, not f'in invisible anymore jeez. Ryodan. And Jericho Barrons. Action, adventure, evil masterminds...all that good stuff. That end tho....cliffhangers drive me up the wall but it left me wanting MORE!
Cons: I LOVE Mac & Barrons but I would so rather these books be mainly in Dani/Jada's pov. Mac's parts were a little repetitive and I caught myself skimming ahead in hopes that the next chapter would bring Dani/Jada/Ryodan back. Dancer be damned. I want Mac to be around too..but more like the crazy aunt we all know and love who pops in to help whoop ass and solve problems. Then she can mosey along back to BB&Bs to have hot animal sex with Barrons, while we are left to focus on Jada (or Dani..w/e) and Ryodan working out their love/hate for each other (but lets be honest it's love...right? right?...) It's totally going to be love.
Anyways, skipping over Mac makes me sad because I never would have done that before. Which means I'm getting a little tired of her. Her character has lost some of it's appeal.
Over all it was a good read!! I can't wait for Feversong :)
