I was ready to give up; the first half of the book is extremely slow and there is nothing redeemable about either main character. But I pushed through and was so glad I did! Anthony and Gloria do get their comeuppance and I began to appreciate the beautiful writing and wry wit of Fitzgerald (I haven't read his other works yet). It's a slog but I was fully invested by the end.

As someone in the reviews already stated, beautifully written but incredibly boring.

This was depressing, especially considering the semi-autobiographical undertones. I enjoyed it, though, especially the shifting perspective and moments of classic Fitzgerald. Not The Great Gatsby by any stretch, but worthwhile if you've got some time and don't mind reading about selfish folks drinking and spending themselves into oblivion.
