Everything Backman writes feels like the easiest 5 stars I've ever given. Nobody can write characters like him. He can show the good in every one, regardless of how awful he might portray them at first. He does suspense so well in this book that parts were painful to read. He doesn't make things easy and things don't go the way you want, but his books are perfect.

This was an incredible follow up to Beartown.

It did take me a little longer to connect and I felt like the second half of the book was spectacular and really captured the lightning in a bottle feel that Backman had with book one.

It is tough to read at times, but my god does Backman have a way of capturing complexities and feeding them to us in a way that feels entirely relatable.
