the horror elements were really well done! i felt like the character relationships could’ve been better executed but it was still a solid read B)

I literally could not put this book down at all. It was such a quick read and was interesting when I read the first page. The book grasped me immediately and kept me all the way to the end. I’m hoping to see more from this author. Thank you for making this Black, trans queer person’s day. A story I’ve always needed.

This is a sparkling debut that is equal parts fun and anxiety inducing. The YA aspect of the book is VERY YA and might be a little off-putting for readers picking this up for the horror aspect, but I WILL say that Douglass's descriptive writing does an impeccable job with making you feel like you're in Jake's shoes as a teenage Medium that it's easy to read past the YA-ness of it. Hoping that Blumhouse gets their hands on this one for a future adaptation!

Okay so this book was very fast paced and I did enjoy the story. But my only problems with it mainly were excessive exposition and some plot points weren't developed as well as I thought they could have been, and some characters did feel flat for me. But that being said it was an enjoyable read.

The writing and vocabulary was great. Great use of metaphors and similes. The climax was hard to identify and underwhelming. The falling action and resolution were stretched. The author has a great talent with words and description and the concept of the book and very interesting
