Really liked this 2nd book of the Vicky Bliss Series. I love Elizabeth Peters sense of humor.

Cheesy, but fabulous! You can't read these books and not smile at the antics of Vicky Bliss.

This second book was another great listen in a mystery series that doesn't take itself too seriously. :) Excellent narrator, too.

The second book in the Vicky Bliss series. Art historian Vicky Bliss is working at Munich's National Museum. Then her boss brings her a forged replica of a talisman that once belonged to Charlemagne found in the pocket of a dead man in an alley. This sends her on a hunt to find out where the forgery was made and if there is a ring of forgers that need to be stopped. Her search takes her to Italy where she finds herself involved with counts, forgers, mistresses, a handsome rouge, and a friendly guard dog. This series is entertaining, but nothing like the Amelia Peabody series.

I'm a big fan of the Vicky Bliss series. I really wish there were more available. Vicky has a very appealing 'streetwise' sort of personality - not unlike Archie from the Nero Wolfe series.

A fun read, with many laugh-out-loud moments. My only gripe would be that the cast of characters was pretty narrow, and almost everyone ended up being in on the conclusion. A few extra incidental characters would have added to the mystery and made the whole thing feel a little more 'real'.

I liked this less than the first Vicky Bliss book. Still readable, and I like Vicky herself, but I didn't really warm to John Smythe and a lot of the plot left me rather cold.

Very light, funny mystery with zero credibility and a lot of charm. Vicky Bliss is a fun character to spend time with.

This is an Excellent Peters mystery. I enjoyed this much more than the previous Bliss book or the Jacqueline books. It is still rather dated and fat phobic, but the mystery, adventure and art history are excellent. I loved Vicky’s voice and her vanity and impulsiveness.

Vicki Bliss meet Sir John Smythe. In Rome on the trail of a bunch of jewel forgers. It was worth it for the interactions between Vicky and John, but sometimes the criminals were a bit ridiculous.

Dare I say I have a new (slight) addiction? I can’t heeeeelp it. (Schmidt! Dashing thieves! Art history!) I blame Leila. There is some content, although it’s pretty understated. [Nov. 2008]

Street of the Five Moons by Elizabeth Peters: The second Vicky Bliss mystery and the one where John Smythe first appears. Outrageous fun, as usual. [Nov. 2009]
