The mostly setting of Antarctica felt very real - it had obviously been well researched. I really enjoyed the romance as well.
It felt a bit flat at the end 25% where it was clearly setting up the series to come.
Contains:
Grumpy sunshine
??? Is he autistic, maybe
Sex with contraception đ€
Only having sex with clean bodies yay!
Tragically only one real sex scene
A very Big Bad conspiracy that if so unreal you just have to roll with it
Graphic: Murder, Medical content, Injury/Injury detail, Blood, and Gun violence

Angel and Ford and all the âPoleysâ were so loveable. You really feel their connection since they only had each other out there. The challenges Angel and Ford faced were rough but I liked how the author used these situations to focus on how inner strength is what gets you through situations like this. That and luck. Iâm glad the sexual tension wasnât as big a part of the plot as some books make it. When they were doing bad they werenât being super horny teenagers, they were leaning on each other for moral support when they thought they were gonna die. Basically, it felt more natural and sexual at the appropriate times. Donât need mentions of his rockin bod when heâs in critical condition yk?
Spoilers ahead
Iâm also a sucker for an emotionally distant hero (irl too unfortunately). I loved how he let down his guard around her and then freaked about it. Thatâs so realistic for someone with that avoidant attachment lol. He convinced himself heâs better off alone and then had to come grovel to get her back and we love to see it. Ppl donât magically change and it took him some time to realize he was unhappy and being a coward.
I enjoyed Fordâs brother and both of their backstories. They were both scarred in ways that affected their everyday life. She has a bad knee from a car accident and he has scarring from his time in the military that makes talking difficult. They both had to deal with these issues and more when on the ice, which did them no favors. The elements seemed to work against them in a realistic way that I respected. Ford loved the ice but that doesnât mean it was harmless. That environment is no joke.
Basically I had a good time reading about loveable characters and a twisty, interesting plot. I may check out more books by this author!
