Absolutely captivating and heartbreaking. I hoped that by the end there would be some grand revelation about the direction the medical world is headed with mental health treatments. But alas, that was not the case. That is not the fault of the author, and the book was well written and such an interesting and deep look into this family’s tragedy and this devastating illness.
A really fascinating topic. Was hard for me to follow which kid was which since there are so many and towards the end it just felt like a ramble the last two hours or so. Interesting book and what a tough life for all involved with this terrible disease where there still really isnt help for people with schizophrenia.

This book was SO well written. The amount of time and energy that was put into the writing of this book is astounding. Although this book is nonfiction, it reads like a fiction/novel, making it a lot more intriguing and interesting that other nonfiction books I’ve read. The story of the Galvin family is truly captivating. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because sometimes the family line was difficult to follow and there were some parts of the book that got a little dry or didn’t entirely make sense in the context of what was being discussed. Would recommend to those interested in psychology, mental health, or anomalies!

A fascinating family history. I was a little worried this would be too dry or technical for me, but it wasn’t. The author seems to have developed a warm and personal relationship with the family and is able to convey not only what they told him, but what they seemed to wish to conceal. 80% about the family and their stories, 20% about the science and medical side…which was a good balance for me.
