Ronga and Melissa were fantastic characters as were many of the others featured in this short novel. It veered towards magical realism in the last quarter and left things open ended which was not enjoyable as I really wanted to have some closure with this tough story. Regardless, the story is told from the perspective of a young child so magical realism makes sense in that sense as she struggles to make sense of her experiences and relays information in her own way. The author is phenomenal at character work!
