A heartbreaking but heart-warming story of two sisters on the run up to Christmas. Written from a child's prespective. With themes of community, addiction and belonging. Little resolution and conclusion but moving all the same.

wish i could rate this book even higher, but that ending did not cut it for me unfortunately. the rest of the novel, however, was so beautiful. a warm christmas hug that is desperately needed, told expertly through the perspective of such an endearing and lovely young girl. explores the reality of being a child with an alcoholic parent extremely well for such a short piece, and I am so deeply fond of Aronsen’s character (and that one christmas concert moment… has my heart). forever grateful i was drawn to the piles of copies i found of this book at the bookstore, it was a pleasure to be in Ronja’s world. I saw another review say that they thought the author “paints herself into a corner, and resorts to magic realism for a resolution that is rather unsatisfactory” and i have to agree. an extremely strong novel up until the ending though, and i am still rather fond of it despite that.
