Fantastisk trist og smuk lille bog om julen i en familie, hvor far drikker og de to piger må klare det meste selv. Jeg havde ondt i maven da slutningen nærmede sig.

Amazing holiday read. Masterfully executed short novel. Story is told from the point of view of a little girl. Book delves briefly into themes exploring the effects of poverty on family life. Highly recommend. I would also totally read this again

What a heartbreaking little book!! Norwegian Clare Keegan, novella vibes. Winter story about two girls whose father is an alcoholic and they’re trying to make it work. Told through the perspective of a 10 year old, so it’s just heartbreaking and sweet. I read while it was snowing outside, which felt right. Definitely recommend because you can read in one sitting, but it’s so sad.

A beautifully written novella; a reflection on neglect, alcoholism, loss, resilience and hope.  Two sisters try to find their way through a haze of familial disorder and unexpected allies.  The ending is ambiguous; the outcome for the girls could be understood either way.
