I really enjoyed the story and the artwork! It is a story you might already be familiar with from reading the book series, but the visuals are BADASS. I hope there are plans for Volume 2 because I want to see Ares start and fail his rebellion and recruit "The Sons". Overall, super cool and super thrilling prequel graphic novel.

The parallels between Fitchner’s time at the institute and Sevro’s physically hurts me. Except where Sevro had Darrow who had his back and respected him, Fitchner had Arturius whose love was conditional. Even knowing the basics of Fitchner’s backstory in Golden Son didn’t make it hurt any less seeing how Bryn’s death played out. Beautiful art, gripping story, and the beginning of the Sons of Ares. I just wish Fitchner and Bryn could have seen their son helped to break the chains. If Sevro dies in Red God, then I know Pierce has no soul 💔⛓️‍💥🐺

The graphic novel is gritty and dark in its illustration style. A good complement to the story arc. Good prequel to Red rising if you want more background and world building.
