It's still a pleasure to read Artemis Fowl, a kind of light touch amidst my other readings :) Even though I prefer the fifth one, this sixth book was interessing for time travel theories and i quite agreed with the theorie "Everything is already done" :)
But /!\ SPOILERS ALERTS/!\ I haven't expect a thing would happened between Holly and Artemis :O /!\ SPOILERS ALERTS/!\ .
I think this book was a good book because we could see the evolution between the machiavelic Artemis-from-book-1 and good Artemis-from-book-6. Can't wait to see the next book :O

The best one yet in the series! Probably my favorite, because I loved the idea for the plot.

I generally don't like time travel plots.
This is the first book of the series I read not as a child and not as a reread (I genuinely didn't know it or the other books existed till this week when I started my reread of the series) so I'm looking at it with the eyes of a first time reader and in a different part of my life than when I read the others. So that being said:
The time travel in this book works better than in other stories where it's used, simply because of how they fix everything at the end. I don't think it's necessarily good and the plot could've been avoided by tackling it a different way. Especially because of what No1 does at the very end to wrap it up neatly with the cure. I'm also worried about the precedence time travel in the series will lead to.
The re-introduction of *THAT* character makes me excited to see what happens in the next books but again I think they could have been brought back into the series without time travel.
The saving grace, however, is the character work again. I think some of it was rushed, but the roller coaster that Artemis and Holly go on throughout the book is indicative of what is possibly to come and for that again I'm excited. The friendship between the two is great and complicated and while I have worries based on the genre but I don't think Colfer will go down that route.

For other stories, there's no logical way to make time travel work without making things sticky. Either use that stickiness like this book tries to or give up and just have fun with it. If you truly must use time travel.

Is this the best one yet?

I wanted to love these and they were meh... I don't know if it was the narrator, the story, my frame of mind, me in general but these were not enthralling like I hoped and Carson was right. The movie and the book are like Ready Player One book vs movie. or The Shining book vs movie. They are inspired by but they are totally separate entities.
Basically Ireland is a land of magic and the Fowl family is a heist crew for magic. But Artemis and Holly are the odd couple of friends who need each other and are the last person each other need to keep life interesting and adventurous.

Sometimes there's not a lot to say with a sixth installment. Especially when the elements that you enjoy have remained constant throughout the series. Like the character development and the expansion of the world and lore.

This time, Artemis's mother gets sick. And the only way to get the cure is to travel back in time. So, of course, they travel back in time. It's the closed/causal loop form of time travel, meaning any incident that the travel may cause has already happened, like Prisoner of Azkaban.

The time travel here is done really well. For one, I've always liked causal loops (Google tells me it's also called a predestination paradox). And here, the loop is executed and utilized well and makes several parts of the book really interesting. This is also the most complex book in the series, plot-wise. I like that because it feels like the books are growing with the protagonist. Artemis may be getting older and smarter, but his problems are getting trickier.

I also, once again, enjoyed the pace of the book. And the narration is fantastic, which is why I read it while listening to it. This series has been so much fun that it's making me wonder why I ever stopped reading middle-grade SFF. Might pick up another series or two soon. After I'm done with the next two books, of course.

This might be my least favorite of the series thus far, but it’s by no means boring or uneventful. I think the less Butler shows up, the less invested I become!

I don’t particularly like the way Colfer approaches puberty and adolescence, and though I did like the touch of romance in this book, there were some ~*~strange age things~*~ that weren’t ~*~the best~*~ here. There were definitely twists! They were a bit confusing, but despite that, they held. Something unique about this book is that with the others, you get a distinct feeling that Artemis is always two steps ahead. In this, it feels a bit more like he’s trying to keep up, and he has enough luck and magic on his side to do so.

As the title implies, there is time travel, and it’s the single-timeline kind. I think Colfer handles it alright. More than anything I think this book made me want to read the next one, since it was overall meh for me and I’m wondering if the next one will be better!
