Things I liked

It was pretty fast-paced

Though the setup was cliché I enjoyed it. The rag-tag group of travelers who have to drive to Iowa in a snowstorm due to canceled flights to get to their destinations for christmas. I'm a classic horror movie and book fan, and thus, I can read a setup like this over and over again.

I love a horror set in a blizzard or winter landscape. Makes me miss living in Vermont. Just the cold and having to navigate the horror while dealing with the elements.

I enjoyed the monsters, the action, it was a good classic horror

Now onto why this lost 2 stars

Sometimes I joke about not reading books written by men, it's mostly just a joke but then I read a book and I am reminded why I have this view. Sometimes you read and it's just dripping off the page in the weird slighly chauvinistic way the female charactors are treated and described. That and the "subtle" right-wing digs (ie. The whole merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays thing and then calling his late father a drain on the system, little things like this litter the book)

I did not enjoy the weird romantic thing between Todd and Kate. It was completely unnecessary and when the book was really pulling me in some random line or two about how hot Kate was or some "OH wow we're into eachother" moment would happen and it would pull me out of the story with a groan. Also, the whole thing with her having a Fiancé that she's unfaithful to in a bad relationship just felt like an excuse for them to be able to get together. Just have her be a single woman???

It felt like every survivor was just there to be fodder so that Kate and Todd could survive while still having kills. I guess I want something new, like if the girl they met in the general store became the main instead of dying alone and being completely forgotten, to be honest, I was really hoping Todd would die. That probably would've made this book a 4 star for me.

Ronald Malfi never disappoints. Fast moving, tense, and bleak at times. What if Invasion Of The Body Snatchers took place during a raging blizzard? Well, This story does it’s best to answer that. I had fun!
