Such a disappointment after the magic of Shantaram, one of my all-time favourites. I’ve attempted it twice and DNF both times.
Mi aspettavo qualcosa di più dal seguito di Shantaram. per prima cosa, non c'è più quell'atmosfera magica che si poteva avvertire in tutto il primo romanzo, mentre il protagonista scopriva poco a poco Bombay, ma questo penso fosse comunque inevitabile.
Le metamorfosi e gli aforismi, che erano scritti al momento giusto e che aggiungevano una nota "spirituale" in Shantaram, ormai riempiono quasi ogni pagina (soprattutto la fine di ogni capitolo) e non sono più così azzeccati. C'è per esempio la gara di aforismi tra Lin e Karla (personaggio che ho odiato dall'inizio alla fine) che mi è sembrato solo un modo per accumulare frasi "colte".
Come ultima critica, direi che non ci sono più i colpi di scena che c'erano in Shantaram. Gli eventi si susseguono abbastanza tranquillamente, a parte qualche episodio di cui ci si poteva aspettare.
ero indecisa se mettere 3 o 4 stelle, ma alla fine ho deciso per le 4 stelle, in ricordo dello splendido romanzo che è stato Shantaram.

I liked Shantaram, and this is not as good... But it does explore some of the characters a bit further
3.5 stars. This sequel had a lot to live up to for me given Shantaram is an all time favourite of mine.
This didn’t quite get there - & I found it quite overwritten in places. But it was still great to be back in Bombay with Lin and as always a wonderful big cast of characters.

In der ersten Hälfte des Buches war ich mir nicht ganz sicher was ich davon halten soll und hatte teilweise das Gefühl, die Geschichte sei etwas überstürzt erzählt und mit weniger Liebe zum Detail.
Das hat sich dann aber zum Glück schnell wieder gelegt.
Was mir hier besser gefällt ist, dass es keinen Teil gibt, der sich lange zieht wie im ersten Band.
Ich liebe die Dialoge und spirituellen Gedanken. Hier sind auf alle Fälle wieder viele Passagen rausgeschrieben worden und ich vermute es war nicht das letzte Mal, dass ich dieses Buch gelesen habe.

Philosophical and almost Buddhist like in tone, but edged with organized violence. Great read, never boring throughout
