A deeply fascinating book that helped me understand the history and politics of China while at the same time making me feel deeply with the described people. Highly recommend this to anyone Chinese or interested in China, but also might be interesting to those who aren't either.

A classic for a reason!! Beautifully written to the point that it feels like fiction, but really it’s just credit to Jung Chang’s skills as a writer. Amazing.

i read this book for school and really enjoyed it.  the history was so interesting and so was the family's perspective. my only comment was that i often got confused with names and places, as there are lots of new characters introduced. it took me a long time to read and i found some sections very intense, but that is just the historical context. still a really interesting novel.

Amazing read for anyone curious about China in the 20th century. It’s a hard read, emotionally, but this book genuinely changed my life and the way I looked at and learned about other cultures and nationalities.
