From the moment I saw this cover, something in me just said YES. I knew that I would be head of heels for this book and I was so right. I did not know what to expect, I have never read a Kacen book before but boy, did this book hit all the right places for me. I loved the systemic magic in this world; the author crated a world that clearly points out the difference between upper class and lower class and how this concept relates to our own day and age, it clearly depicts how different levels of magic are available to different social classes and how people who belong to lower classes are not worth any less. It feels raw and honest and loved how powerful it felt.

I think the concept of the magic used in this world was really unique and unexpected. The world-building was so good I could envision myself in every scene. The setting was atmospheric, from the pristine and uptight nature within the walls of the college to the dangerous and gloomy feel of the slums all the way to the icy terrain of Snowdrop, I loved every feeling this book gave me. What I loved the most is how gender fluidity was represented, it was such an idiosyncratic and individualistic part of the story that really made it so unique and yet felt so natural. I also really love that the characters are people of color.

I love Ash, how he has aspirations and beliefs that he never stops fighting for, how he is so driven and believes in his magic, how that makes him strive to better the world for people who are like him or in the same situation. He is truly remarkable. I also really loved Ramsay, she had a stern character that needed healing, I loved how she grew into her self-acceptance. And I adored Callum because, well, he's just amazing. I had no idea this book was a why-choose and that was a wonderful surprise. It was spellbinding and magical.

Thank you @jonathanballpublishers for this amazing book 🖤

My first Kacen Callender book and I'm super excited to read the rest of their catalogue.

Infinity Alchemist started out a bit slow for me because the book begins right after Ash fails the exam and starts working at the school. I felt a little disjointed because I was like who are these people and where are they??? But BUT I'm glad I stuck with it because I had so much fun. Chaotic throuples, megalomaniac fathers, searching for books of ultimate power all while dealing with the pains of growing up ... good soup!

One of the things I enjoyed the most about Infinity Alchemist, was the characters. While didn't care much for Callum (that loser can kick rocks, jk he was just introduced much later and I only feel apathetic towards him), Ramsay (my prickly child) and Ash are my babies. I loved their interactions and their backgrounds tugged at my heartstrings, so glad that they found each other.

The magic system was also pretty intriguing, I wish we got more of the magical school setting, but I peeped that we are getting a book 2 so maybe then. Looking forward to seeing what chaos the trio will stir up as the series continues.

<I> This ARC was provided by the publisher and B2weird bookclub in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone. Muah
