I loved it. It felt like old Stephen King. He wrote this right after his terrible accident so maybe he was still on good drugs. In all reality, this is probably a 4 star, but I loved the experience for me. The first act was the most interesting and I wish he had slowed it down a bit, fleshed it out. I am impressed how he told a story of four friends together without them ever actually being together at any point in the present of the story. The third act could have been considerably tighter. But overall I had a great time.

This book started off strong but took a hard left turn at some point.
I wonder if the problem is, King has just written so many books that it is hard to stay fresh (though his two most recent, Fairy Tale and Holly, are two of his best). Here we get four childhood friends from Derry…kind of like It. But we never get to know these characters like we did the Loser’s Club. Two of them die pretty quickly, but keep showing up in flashbacks.
A story that jumps around in time can work, but this does not because there is no emotional connection to the kids. What we learn later about them might make us feel worse when they die. But we never really know the characters - around page 585 we learn one of them has four kids at home! Jonesy is in danger the whole book and never thinks about his children?!?!
At times this feels like a sequel to The Tommyknockers, with telepathic aliens. Again, kind of hard to stay fresh…though this is a somewhat more bearable read than that was.
The best part was the Easter Egg for It and the allusions to Pennywise. But if that’s the best part, it shows the story is disappointing.
Overall, not my least favorite King. But closer to the bottom than the top.

The alien perspective on human life is interesting and fun, King's writing is great as always. 4 stars because there's only one woman character and some other upsetting biases come thru in the writing as well.

This is a good book that shows Stephen King's love for the X-Files with a shocking revelation on page 370 that will leave and seasoned fan reading the rest of the book with your behind glued to the loo and sleepless nights.

Writing superb but couldn't take the gruesome tension. Stopped when the first character got eaten.
