Useful little book. I have been writing sex scenes for a while now. When I first started, I looked for books that talked about the process but couldn't find much. So I ended up reading a wide range of books by other authors with sex scenes and adopting practices that appealed. A good strategy, I found. But this little book taught me a few things I hadn't worked out, and I especially liked this idea that sex scenes are opportunities for character development that could be used more. That's why I have them in my books, but the lesson bears repeating. I also liked the remarks about how women and men operate differently. Kind of obvious, maybe, but she had thoughtful comments about how they are different, from the perspective of wroting about sex. She also had a fair amount of more general writing advice. It was fine, but a bit too cut and dried for my taste. I like to bend and even break conventions, whereas she is more by-the-book. Still, overall, worth the price of admission on a subject about which not enough is written. A valuable book for writers, and perhaps for a wider readership as well. As she points out, talking about writing about sex generates lots of laughter, and sex can be very funny as well.
