Through the pages of this book, we get introduced into this new dystopic world that reminded me about The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I wonder, was I the only one? I hope not! But anyway, I won’t start to compare them, because as I got to finish it, I realized that they are two different things. Endgame, is a game where 12 players, from the original lines of humanity, that have been training all their life for this in: weapons, languages, history, tactics, disguise and assassination, have to play with no rules to win, for the survival of their lines and the people they love. Sounds like The Hunger Games, doesn’t it? But believe me, even though it’s pretty similar, it’s not the same. How? Well, here on Endgame, we have aliens as gods, the creators of every single thing, and the main reason why Endgame exists. Also, in Endgame, you don’t just win if you kill everyone else (like in The Hunger Games), the main reason for this game is for the players to find three keys: Earth Key, Sky Key, and i-don’t-know-what-else Key. And well, if everyone is dead and you’re the only one left, I think that’s the only way how the “hunger-games-way” will work out! But anyway. . .
This first book of the Endgame Series is mainly about the players trying to survive, accept that endgame has begun and has changed their lives, and looking for the first key: Earth Key. We get to see a lot of action around the pages of this book right here, but, honestly, I didn’t like the present tense third person narration, and I think that’s the main reason why I didn’t get to enjoy this book as much as I hoped to! I’m still so. . .sad about it?. . .upset about it? I DON’T EVEN KNOW! But, let’s forget about me and keep talking about the book, shall we?!
The story of Endgame, as I mentioned before, evolves around these 12 players that have to fight to kind the keys and for the survival of their races. So, even though I didn’t got to enjoy this book as much as I thought and wanted to, I found its plot pretty original and amazing. It was something new I could’ve never imagined possible, and even if it had some ups, many downs and was boring most of the times, I quite enjoyed it, or at least, some. SPECIALLY THE ENDING, I LOVED THE ENDING! I honestly think that the last 161 pages were the best, but I don’t know if it was really my feels or the hype that I was close to finishing it that made me enjoy it so much, hmm. The ending was so freaking unexpected, that I forgot about how much I hated the first 300 pages, and I wanted to throw the books against the wall in. . .feels? Yeah, I guess they were feels. But even if it was unexpected as f, I loved it, and it’s the reason why I almost gave it 4 stars. ALMOST!
On this book, we get to meet a couple of characters. And since there were 12 main characters, I had the problem of having love/hate feelings at the same time in every chapter, ugh. Anyway, through the beginning of the book, we get to meet the players: Marcus Loxias Megalos (Minoan), Chiyoko Takeda (Mu), Sarah Alopay (Cahokian), Alice Ulapala (Koori), Aisling Kopp (La Tene), Baitsakhan (Donghu), Jago Tlaloc (Olmec), An Liu (Shang), Shari Chopra (Harrapan), Kala Mozami (Sumerian), Maccabee Adlai (Nabataean), and Hilal ibn Isa al-Salt (Aksumite). And we can’t forget about Sarah’s boyfriend, who wasn’t a player but still takes a big part on this book; Christopher Vanderkamp, and Baitsakhan’s brother: Jalair. There are also other characters that appear around the book, but these mentioned here are like, the main ones. In general, they are all intelligent, brave, merciless, fearless, and just. . .wow characters. But even if they were good, I didn’t quite catch some development, except on Chiyoko and An, but I guess I’ll see how the rest does on the second book, right?!

This book started slowly, but caught my interest. It ended rather suddenly. I know there will be more books, but it was not a well written ending.
For the critics: not at all like the hunger games. Point of critique: too many povs. It takes a long time to get invested in people cause it's hard to differentiate between them.
Tasapaksua puuroa.
Read to Page 113. Did not finish.
I'm sure it's a great adventure story, cause who doesn't like "play a game with aliens to save the earth"? But I can't get into it.

Liked the idea, but the execution was awful. Didn't like the writing, didn't like the characters, SO MANY characters and with difficult names, so it was way too difficult to keep up.

I read about 30% of this. I just couldn't finish. Good premise, but it just lost me.
