This has so much potential, I'm definitely going to reread when the whole thing goes live. Plot wise, it was a little disjointed at first as we were introduced to so many characters in a short time, but things develop and start to flow properly - and it becomes a fast paced action adventure. I really liked the variety of different players, so diverse and yet linked by the same basic endgame - win! Yes, there are similarities to The Hunger Games but there are also big differences. I particularly liked the fact that we're shown all the players and not led by a main protagonist. If it fulfills it's potential, then this could be a game changer. In each book there is a puzzle, which links to a Google Niantic app - this means that the reader can actually get involved with the solving of a scavenger hunt which leads to real rewards. It will be a social media event on a massive scale.
Unfortunately, in the ARC the clues and puzzles are for display only. Which means I'll have to wait with the rest of you until October 7th to try my hand at winning the gold! Good luck!

Meh. The writing is rather awful. I'd rather read 39 Clues.

Ich weiß nicht genau, wie ich zu diesem Buch stehe. Einerseits ist dieses apokalyptische Thema sehr spannend und kann mich auch fesseln, andererseits kommt die ganze Action nicht so wirklich rüber. Soll heißen, dass das beispielsweise in einem Film vielleicht oder wahrscheinlich richtig gut wirken würde, im Buch aber nicht wirklich eindrucksvoll sind.
Die Figuren sind allesamt sehr unterschiedlich und handeln alle nach verschiedenen Maximen. Leider kommen meiner Meinung nach manche Spieler zu kurz, während andere quasi jedes zweite Kapitel bestimmen. Hoffentlich wird das in Teil 2 anders. Was mich aber besonders gestört hat, sind die Liebesbeziehungen zwischen manchen Spielern. Diese entstehen ziemlich schnell und wirken hinter dem ganzen Endzeithintergrund zum Teil sehr unglaubwürdig.
"Endgame" hat mich also nicht vollständig überzeugt. Trotzdem bin ich sehr darauf gespannt, wie es im nächsten Teil weitergeht. (Diesen werde ich aber nur dann lesen, wenn meine Bücherei den Folgeband in den Bestand aufnimmt. Wegen der ganzen James Frey Kontroverse.)
Übrigens: Endgame ist keineswegs wie "Die Tribute von Panem". Die einzige Parallele, die zwischen beiden Büchern besteht, ist, dass jeweils zwölf Jugendliche gegeneinander antreten.

Kind of a typical teen novel, but I loved it. The end was sort of confusing so I am interested to get into the next one to figure it out.
