A strong follow up to the first book. I dare say I liked it more than the first. However, toward the end I was hoping it would wrap up about 1.5 hours sooner than it did.

Again interesting. But not enough that I would want to read another 2 books. I wish the story was finished already.

It was kinda slower paced and I didn’t have a real connection with any of the characters. It also felt very flat.

The characters in this series are its greatest attribute, and the plot continues to surprise me and keeps me guessing and theorizing. I definitely do not completely understand the details of the world, with its many festival and rituals and rules with little explanation. I have given up on trying to understand the culture and rules of the world and am now just taking it all in stride without questioning it. This is definitely not a fast-paced, exciting read, but it is very interesting and every time I start to get sick of how mundane I can be, some little thing happens that provokes enough interest again to keep me reading.

more like 1.5 stars because i actually enjoyed the occasional thing.

so so glad i finally finished this book because now i don't have to think about it anymore lmao.

this was such a such a disappointing read, i really enjoyed the first book but this one was boring, it dragged, there was too much focus on the romance and side characters, not enough of the actual queens aka the main characters. nor has kendare blake actually fulfilled what she promised with this series: all three queens are still alive and the 2nd book is now over.

this series should have been a stand-alone or a duology AT THE MOST because there is so much irrelevancy in this story that i'm wondering if it actually had an editor.
