Disappointing read.
I hope the author decides to break her mold with the now and then timelines. I feel like I’m reading the same book over and over. I need some change up if I pick up her next release.

I liked this book a lot but could done without all the sex scenes. The characters were likable although I still can’t picture who I think would play Felix/Wolf in a movie. I had a hard time picturing him for some reason.

There’s almost nothing that concerns me more than when a non-Maritimer writes about the Maritimes. We get it, you think we’re cute. This is a real place and the home of real people. I was even so nervous (after being burned by some bad ones in the past) that I verified with a friend who is from PEI and had read this that it was decently accurate. Phew. Also upon reading it, while there are many Anne of Green Gables references, there’s an excellent use of Anne of the Island in this book, letting me know that Carley Fortune was committed to her research.
This was sweet and funny and loving, but also wrenching, in a thoughtful and mature way that isn’t usually part of the best-friend’s-brother-falling-for-friend-who-is-like-family. There are no needlessly dramatic moments, no scenes that need saving from. This is life, and while there are a few too many oyster shucking scenes (I don’t like oysters), this was lovely. Carley Fortune has solidified her place on my list with her annual summer read.
