Totally different kind of "realizing who you are" story.

I really like Laura Amy Schlitz's storytelling-quality of her writing. I like the feisty fairy Flory, but the ending felt abrupt. Three and a half stars, because I'm glad I have a fairy chapter book to give little girls without an obvious product tie-in.

Closer to a 4 1/2. I thought the story was really cute without being precious and also though the illustrations were beautiful.

Silver Knight, 2012
This is a beautifully designed book: small format, heavy glossy pages, full page illustrations in each chapter. The story is about a night fairy who ends up having to learn how to be a day fairy. She encounters all kinds of creatures she never sees at night and has lots of adventures. Since I'm not a big fan of fairy fiction, it was not a gripper for me, but I think many of my students will love this.

A sweet story of a young fairy who loses her wings and must learn how to rely on others. Not at all cheesy or trite. Flory was the embodiment of the fairies I imagined as a child: whimsical, immature, impertinent, and charming.

A sweet, simple tale of a young fairy that gets into a lot of trouble. Probably more appropriate for a younger age group, but also a light enough read after a particularly intense book. Perfect for young girls who are enchanted by creatures of the forest, this short piece offers lessons on kindness and compassion.

This book was a pretty good one. It was not entirely like the other fairy books I've read, but it was very short and when I got to the end, I thought, "Where's the rest of it?!" I personally wanted to know if she and the bat would become good friends and if she would ever go to her natural home again..

At first I thought this was going to be a book for kids, but I really enjoyed this unusual story. Also it has some great drawings.
