I found a copy of this at Half Price Books and bought it primarily because the cover was pretty. I'm happy to report this book is hilarious and I have no regrets.

Time for some humour and who better than Stephen Leacock. The fictional setting of "Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town" (1912) is Mariposa and the stories focus on the characters that populate it. What I like about Leacock’s work is that he's seldom acerbic, and the humour is derived from hyperbole and some fantastic descriptions. This is a book that will appeal to everyone. Recommended.

Read for book club, but just wasn’t for me. It’s about a fictional town and the drama surrounding those who live there. I didn’t find this book humorous, nor particularly interesting when it came to the short stories. That doesn’t mean that it won’t be for you, but it just wasn’t for me.

I was put onto this put Stuart Maclean, from the CBC radio show the Vinyl Cafe. It's a charming little set of interlinked stories about a small, fictional, town in the Canadian heartland.

I can really see where Stuart has been inspired for his Dave and Morley stories in the style of writing. Surprisingly, while I was reading it I kept wishing that I was listening to someone read it out loud instead. They way that it was written, the tone and the style in which it is read can really effect the overall humour of the stories.

Charming stories really, I'm glad that I read them, but not overly sure when I will be making another visit to Mariposa

I liked the little stories seen throughout the novel, If I hadn't have had to read this for class, I likely never would have picked it up.

Endearingly nostalgic. Reading these stories is like being invited to a family dinner, where you intimately know everyone’s faults and can’t stop rolling your eyes, but love everybody anyway.

Fun, like a winesburg ohio but happy. Even ends with a train scene.

Kind of felt like the Joe Pera buffalo bills joke.

The give me mariposa over the lights of Paris type jokes were funny every time.

If only the federal census taker could count us now!
