What a delight this story was! It has been a really long time since I read series that was cozy and warm and full of characters I couldn't wait to come back to. It's a quiet book and in a way it reminds me of Anne of Green Gables--the quirky townspeople, daily life in a tiny village, all the secrets that can live in a place like that. At its heart it is so pleasant and sweet. I can see why people compare it to All Creatures Great and Small. Part of me wants to dive into the next book, but I think I may hold onto these for a while. It'll be nice to know I can pick one up whenever I want.

3.75 stars, rounded down. The main reason for the docked stars is content that I’m not a fan of. Quite a bit of swearing and a bit too much suggestive stuff.
The story was really fun to start off, and I did like the settings. But as it went on it became less entertaining? Maybe it was my mood when reading, I’m not sure.
A lot of it seemed very similar to All Creatures Great and Small. Overall, I might pick up the sequels, but I’m not in a rush to. It was just ok.

I keep a dear place in my heart for Ireland and all the romantic notions I associate with the green isle. I wanted to like this book more than I did. It was too shallow in character development, too predictable in storyline and too perfectly tied up at the end. It lacked the grayness and ambiguity I tend to like in fiction. Taylor provided for some insight into life in Ulster county, but left me wanting more.
