I listened to this kind of on accident, in that I randomly borrowed the 23rd one from my library and then realized what I'd done and returned it for book 1. I can definitely understand how you could end up with a very long series of books about this colorful cast of characters. Folksy, surprisingly political, relatively interesting as a sort of slice-of-life historical fiction. Might read more, I'll decide later.
medium-paced
This was a good book and I cannot wait to read the sequel! It was such an easy read and the characters were so enjoyable the book flew by! Loved this book! A little predictable in some parts of the story but still very good. It is almost like the predictability made it a great book.
I needed a book like this. It's uncomplicated, with memorable characters in a place I kind of wished I lived. I can't wait to continue the series.
Very sweet. Reminded me of James Herriot with people.
We read this for book club, and I believe this is the first book in a series of many.
Cute, funny story about a new doctor in the small town of Ballybucklebo in Ireland. He works with the current Doctor O'Reilly, a very eccentric and not the typical status quo doctor. But he learns a lot from the man, and realized medical school doesn't teach you everything you need to be a doctor.
I feel like those who work in the medical field would really get a kick out of this book.
What I didn't like about the book is that they took the Lord's name in vain A LOT! And I counted around 10 F bombs (about 6 on one page from one patient.) I would have liked it a lot better if it didn't have those in there.

A very nice and "cute" story; easy to read and very humorous. The characters are wonderful.
Simply an uncomplicated and lovely book. I am Dr. Barry Laverty's biggest fan :)

This was such a soothing, pleasing, peaceful book to read. Just what I needed. I’m glad I have the rest of the series to look forward to; I hope it’s just as good!
