4.5.

The cover has been enticing me for the longest time, so I am very glad I read it. While nothing remarkably special, it was definitely an enjoyable and heartwarming read. I enjoyed the time period it was set in, and the audio book was extremely well narrated. He had clear and distinct voices for each of the characters.
Not a super deep book, but enjoyable for easy listening.
3.75/5 stars, and a recommendation to anyone who wants a slice of life kinda story.

So far this book is a VERY pleasant read! It actually surprised me but along with the general plot the author injects funny "irish-isms" that keep the story very light and funny.

6/2: I actually finished this book over a month ago and still agree with what I wrote above...it was an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

i absolutely adored this book! it's a sweet, cozy slice-of-life in 1960s ireland and it's beautifully written. patrick taylor may be a doctor by trade but he found his calling with this book and i can't wait to read the second one!!

A gentle, funny, descriptive escape with memorable characters.

How could I possibly NOT love this book? It is set in rural Northern Ireland, in a town called Ballybucklebo. Classic.
It follows fresh out of training Barry Laverty as he is employed by an old General Practitioner Doctor Fingal Flaherty O'Reilly in the tiny village. Basically it follows Barry as he gets to know all the unique townspeople and develop relationships with them. It's charming, reminds me of Irish life, and a wonderful story.
Also I am so glad there are about 7 or 8 books in this series, I believe. Can't wait to keep reading them!

This wasn't a disappointing read, nor was it something I was really dying to get through, either. The thing that made it nice was that I was able to pick out all the little diagnoses Dr. Laverty made throughout the book. I knew that nursing education would come in handy for something other than my livelihood.
