This was my introduction to the Nightworld when I was eleven years old. Since then I've read it so many times I practically remember the words and it still remains my favourite.

Pretty standard stuff -- tweeny bopper paranormal romance, relatively minimal violence and no sex to speak of. Not great literature, but not dreadful. Fine for in-the-car listening-- memorable enough that when I listen to the next book in the series I remember the basics from previous ones, but not memorable enough for me to be able to write an individual review for each book months after I listened to them.

Still a favorite. Huntress was one of my top 3 favorite novels in the Night World series, if not my number 1 favorite and at this point it still is. I enjoyed the story from beginning to end and there was only a few minor issues that don't effect my rating at all.
The story starts with Jezebel (Jez) Redfern a vampire and her gang toying with some human gang members. It was a fun scene, even though I knew that the humans would probably be dead soon. It's during this part that Jez realizes something about herself, she's not a full vampire, she's half human and half vampire. In other words she's an abomination to the Night World.
It's now a year later, Jez lives with her deceased mother's family, her Aunt, Uncle, and two cousins. Claire, her eldest cousin, and Jez don't get along. Mostly it's because Jez gets away with a lot of things at the house.
Jez's friend Hugh has recently told Jez about a Wild Power, Wild Powers are basically humanities saving grace. There are four of them and they all need to be together to stop an apocaplyse, if even one dies, is turned to the other side, or isn't found then the Day world where humans rule is over and the Night World takes over.
Morgead, Jez's second in command of her former vampire gang, and soulmate, is also on the trail of the Wild Power. And in order to find out what he knows she has to go undercover and get back into the gang.
At first it's thought to be a a young child named Ione, then,
I really enjoyed the way the story unfolded. It moved a good pace, there wasn't any lagging sections, and I had fun rereading this journey. The tone changes in this book, where as the previous books focused more on the romance and the soulmate principle while this one starts the push toward that final book and final battle. I didn't remember that it was this late in the series when the apocalypse talk really started, so it was a bit of surprise when I read the previous books and it wasn't brought up at all to my knowledge or if it was it was so minor that I didn't pick it up.
The relationship between Morgead and Jez was fun and entertaining. Morgead was Jez's second in command of the vampire gang when she was the leader. Now that she's gone he's the leader. There relationship was a bickering one. Jez thought that Morgead hated her but as I read their banter it wasn't hate I felt. It was more playful and sarcastic but not hate.
There was kind of triangle also in this between Morgead, Jez, and Hugh. In that Jez thought Hugh was attractive and occasionally wondered about being with him but she also has strong feelings for Morgead. I liked that LJS didn't develop that completely, it's just there for a little bit, it's not for sure, and it's kind of is it a triangle or isn't it vibe.
One thing that I thought was a bit too convenient for my taste was how Jez realized she wasn't a full vampire. It's during the hunt of the human gang members and the leader, who Jez is chasing, is pleading for his life. And it was in that moment that Jez remembers something from her parents deaths/murders. What bothered me about her finding out that way was that this couldn't have been the first person/victim to plead for their lives with her. She's a vampire, she's more than likely killed and/or feed hundreds of times before why would this one be the one to jog her memory?
Honestly other than that issue this was great.

Honestly ended up loving this book so much more than I did when I first read it 10 years ago. Now that I am older, I am truly able to appreciate Jez's reformation--in many ways, her storyline is similar to that of Ash Redfern, except unlike Ash, Jez chooses to redeem herself out of her own moral conscience and not to be worthy of someone else's affections. Somehow, this really hit him--L. J Smith always makes such powerful, strong female characters.
I also loved the romance between her and Morgead, and found I appreciated their relationship a lot more as an adult than I did back when I was a kid. Overall, this book had the least amount of romance compared to other Night World books and was more focused on action, but it definitely had a lot more wild, fun vibes to it.

Well that escalated quickly. We finally got the full reason as to why this whole soulmate thing is happening. This story included some prophecies which were fun to try to figure out. ||I liked how okay Morgead was with everything in the end||. I think the start with Jez was a little rushed but other than that I enjoyed it. This book needed to be a little longer to really fit the information in. Still looking forward to reading the next book.
