"Utterly pulse pounding," as the blurb maintains, is way-overstated. This book is WAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too long. They've stopped editing Galbraith, which is a great pity. The 950 pages could easily be cut by 250 and the book could probably have been cut down to 600 without losing anything necessary. I skimmed a lot because it was so predictable (all the scenes inside the cult) and repetitive. It's better than two stars, though, because Galbraith (yes, I know it's J.K. Rowling, but she uses Robert Galbraith for this series, so I'm sticking with that) plays fair with the reader, and, if you were paying enough attention and were clever enough, you could figure out who did it, but of course you weren't. The solution to the mystery is very satisfying, and
Spoilerthe takedown of the cult, though predictable, is even more satisfying. I am also supremely happy to see the last of Charlotte!
At least in this book we didn't have to hear over and over about how much Strike's leg hurt him, but I was mightily tired of reading about every burger and piece of fish he ate for six months. That's the kind of stuff that could go, if an editor were doing an editor's job. Establish the situation and then let it go! She's navigating tricky waters here, with the relationship between Strike and Robin, and so far she's pulled it off, but we'll have to see what the next installment brings. (Yes, I will read it. Checked out from the library.)

Oh my word and how long do I have to wait to know what happens next!?

Joanne, why are you doing this to me??

Best one in the series. So close to Troubled Blood, which has been my favorite, but dang it was so good.
