Taught me a lot about the history of Wyoming's politics. Lester Hunt is an inspiration.

This is an interesting, well-written history/biography of the late Senator Lester Hunt (WY) - who only served one term in the US Senate and died by suicide in his office at the end of that term, as a result of blackmail from Senator McCarthy's allies (and likely Senator McCarthy as well), over his son's arrest for ostensibly soliciting gay sex.

It is a book which certainly hearkens to today's political challenges - Hunt was a man of integrity who would not bend to the likes of McCarthy; and his death ended up the catalyst for the Senate finally censuring McCarthy and by extension, his cronies. Imagine that happening to someone who was operating outside the acceptable democratic norms of our nation, today?!

Also, Hunt was a talented politician. He was involved in a committee which addressed organized crime and corruption, another which investigated allegations of US war crimes (torture of prisoners), and his legislation on medical care was the seed which became Medicaid.
